Chad Howard Named City of Moreno Valley's Officer of the Year
|
The City of Moreno Valley is pleased to announce Officer Chad Howard has been named Officer of the Year for 2016.
Officer Howard has been assigned to the Moreno Valley Police Department since 2008. During his time with the City, Officer Howard has distinguished himself in every position he has held including patrol, School Resource Officer, the Random-Short Duration Saturation (RSSAT) team, and the Gang Task Force.
He is currently assigned to the City’s Special Enforcement Team – Gangs.
Despite working in a City filled with devoted and hard-working officers, Officer Howard’s leadership, dedication and teamwork have managed to distinguish him from the rest of his talented peers.
Officer Howard takes great pride in his assignments and serving the residents of Moreno Valley. His work ethic and passion for keeping Moreno Valley safe are second to none.
Congratulations Officer Howard on being named Moreno Valley’s 2016 Officer of the Year!

Community Clean Up: Working to Keep Moreno Valley Beautiful
|
On April 15, members of the City’s Community Development Department coordinated and participated in another Volunteer Community Clean Up event.
City staff, along with an enthusiastic team of volunteer students from Moreno Valley College, helped a property owner rehabilitate their front yard and bring it back into compliance with city code.
This hard-working group of volunteers cleaned the entire yard of debris and weeds. They also installed an underlayment to control future weeds, planted a tree and drought tolerant shrubs and flowers, and covered the entire yard with a thick blanket of mulch.
Thanks to the efforts of these enthusiastic volunteers this home and the entire neighborhood has been transformed.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed at City Hall
|
Three electric vehicle charging stations have been installed at the City Hall parking lot off of Calle San Juan De Los Lagos.
Two Level 2 chargers, which can fully charge some electric vehicles in just four hours were installed along with a fast charge station, which can provide an 80% charge of the electric vehicle in just 30 minutes.
The chargers’ installation was funded in part by grants from the South Coast Air Quality Management District with the purpose of promoting the installation of a fast charging network throughout Southern California.
The chargers use mobile applications from two of the largest electric vehicle network providers in the country – Chargepoint and EVgo. These applications allow users to access additional chargers in the area and the state and connect with other electric vehicle drivers.

Bus Stops Upgraded with New Shelters, Solar LED Lighting
|
New bus shelters have been installed on Lasselle Street at Via Xavier and in front of Rancho Verde High School.
The new shelters are a joint project between the City of Moreno Valley and the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA). They feature an attractive design, route mapping, a trashcan, bench, and solar powered LED lighting to assist passengers waiting for the bus at night.
These upgraded bus stops have among the highest number of riders on Route 41, which runs from Riverside University Medical Center and Moreno Valley College to the Mead Valley Community Center.
Several stops along Iris Avenue, Moreno Beach Drive, and Nason Street were upgraded with new trashcans and benches.

Fourth of July Parade Entries Are Being Accepted
|
Help celebrate America by participating in the City of Moreno Valley’s Fourth of July hometown parade.
Community members, businesses, churches and other organizations are encouraged to apply to be part of the festivities.
The City’s annual Fourth of July parade draws thousands of Moreno Valley residents and visitors to watch dozens of floats, community organizations, musical groups and local dignitaries make their way down the parade route.
This year’s theme is "Sweet Land of Liberty.”
Creative entries are encouraged. Help the City showcase the best of what Moreno Valley has to offer.
The deadline to register is Thursday, June 8. Parade entry applications will not be accepted after the deadline.
Entry applications are available at the Moreno Valley Conference & Recreation Center, 14075 Frederick Street, or online at www.moval.org/fourth.

Save a Life at the Earth Day Pet Adoption Event

Celebrate Earth Day by adopting a new dog or cat to add to your family at the City of Moreno Valley's Save a Life - Earth Day Pet Adoption event.
April 21: 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
April 22: 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
$50 dogs/puppies; $15 cats/kittens
Adoption Includes spay or neuter surgery, vaccines, and a HomeAgain microchip.
Pets adopted that have not been altered will stay for surgery and will be available to go home on the afternoon of the day surgery is scheduled.
The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is located at 14041 Elsworth St in Moreno Valley.

Neighborhood Watch Block Captains Learn About Earthquake Preparedness, Citywide Camera System
|
Ten Moreno Valley Neighborhood Watch block captains recently attended the quarterly meeting at the Moreno Valley Police Department.
Community Services Officer Leafy Wilson gave a presentation on earthquake preparedness, including what to expect if a major earthquake were to occur and how to prepare in advance.
The block captains also learned about how the Moreno Valley Citywide Camera System works, and how it can assist the Police Department in investigating incidents within the community.
The Neighborhood Watch program is a nationwide initiative that unites residents and law enforcement through educating residents in how to improve their communities.
