The City of Moreno Valley is seeking public input to be used for an
Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH)
. Residents are urged to participate in a series of meetings about fair housing, as their input is a critical component of the AFH.
The Assessment of Fair Housing (AFH) is a legal requirement that the City must complete in order to continue receiving federal housing and community development funding from the U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). Specifically, the AFH is an analysis undertaken pursuant that includes an analysis of fair housing data, an assessment of fair housing issues and contributing factors, and an identification of fair housing priorities and goals specific to Moreno Valley. Examples of fair housing issues include regional demographics, segregation, racially and ethnically concentrated areas of poverty, access to opportunity, disproportionate housing need, publicly supported housing, access to persons with disabilities, and fair housing enforcement and outreach capacity.
A public hearing took place at the City Council Meeting of August 15 at 5:30 p.m. The primary purpose of the Public Hearing was to present the draft AFH to City Council, including the goals to address any impediments to fair housing that were uncovered, and open the public display period. A draft copy of the AFH is available for public inspection now and ending September 14. Copies of the document are available on the City’s websites, at City Hall - Finance Department, and at the Moreno Valley Public Library.
A community meeting was held on Wednesday. A second community meeting will be held on September 12, 2017 from 10:30-11:30 am in the Council Chamber, 14177 Frederick Street, Moreno Valley.
