Skate Park Concepts Unveiled

The City unveiled several possible concepts for a new skate park at Community Park on June 21.

Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez hosted the meeting at the Cottonwood Golf Center to hear from members of the community what they want to see in the skate park.

The project is community-driven, the result of an effort by high school students from across the City who gathered signatures in support of a new skate park.

Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback and ideas for this exciting project!

Officer of the Year: Jay Willner

Officer Jay Willner has been named the Moreno Valley Police Department's “Officer of the Year” for 2017.

Officer Willner has been assigned to the Moreno Valley Police Department since August 2008. He has worked in a variety of assignments, including the Community Services Unit, Special Enforcement Unit, the Random-Short Duration Saturation (RSSAT) team and the Patrol Unit.

Officer Willner's hard work, dedication, and leadership ability set him apart from his peers.

MyMoVal Community Engagement Open House

Residents and community groups are invited to attend the MyMoVal Community Engagement Open House on Thursday, July 12 to learn how to get involved.

Organizations looking for volunteers can use www.MyMoVal.org to post their local charitable events on the site to attract helping hands to their efforts and volunteers can find the right opportunities to give back to their neighbors.

City Improving Bike Safety with "Sharrows"

The City is installing Shared Lane Markings, commonly known as “sharrows" s part of the City's bicycle network.

These roadway markings are used to indicate a shared lane environment for bicycles and automobiles where roads are too narrow to include a separate bicycle lane.

Sharrows alert drivers to the possible presence of bicyclists, help reduce the chance of drivers opening the door of a parked vehicle into a bicyclist's path, and reduces the incidences of wrong-way bicycling.

The markings are often installed with “Bicycles May Use Full Lane” signs for further emphasis.

KinderCare Children Tour Police Department

Children from KinderCare toured the Moreno Valley Police Station this week.

The children were very excited to meet and interact with police officers, see police cars and other equipment up close, and learn how police officers do their jobs.

They were also treated to a special demonstration by Moreno Valley Police K9 Herbie, who showed the children how police dogs and their police officer partners work together to keep Moreno Valley safe.
