Gas Tax Dollars to Help Repair More Than 100 Moreno Valley Roads

More than 100 Moreno Valley streets are being repaired as part of two important pavement preservation and rehabilitation projects.

These projects are your gas tax dollars at work.

The “Pavement Preservation Project” will repair 105 residential street segments, and the “Pavement Rehabilitation Project ,” will repair four key arterial street segments.

The arterial street segments include:

Westbound Cactus Avenue from Graham Street to Heacock Street

Kitching Street from Iris Avenue to Krameria Avenue

Alessandro Boulevard from Elsworth Avenue to Frederick Street

Eucalyptus Avenue from Perris Boulevard to Lasselle Street

Work will start on residential streets first. Construction is scheduled to be completed in late Fall 2018.

Construction notices have been provided to nearby residents to help provide more information about the project schedules and construction activities.

Please be mindful and slow down in the construction zone to keep our crews safe.

Clear the Shelters Event Offers $20 Pet Adoptions on August 18

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is participating in the annual Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign on Saturday, August 18. The event is brought to you by NBC4 Southern California / KNBC and Telemundo 52 Los Angeles / KVEA.

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is one of 65 local shelters and rescue locations throughout Southern California offering a reduced adoption fee of $20.

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter is located at 14041 Elsworth Street in Moreno Valley. The shelter will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the Clear the Shelter event on Saturday, August 18.

“The impact Clear the Shelters has made locally is unparalleled as we go into the fourth year of this successful adoption drive,” said NBC4 President and General Manager Steve Carlston. “Every year the stations’ total adoptions surpass the year prior, and we look forward to doing it again as we help shelters alleviate overpopulation and make adoptions affordable for all families.”

Last year, NBC4 and Telemundo 52’s Clear the Shelters™ campaign resulted in more than 11,500 pet adoptions across five counties, making it the largest single day pet adoption in Southern California. Since 2015, more than 150,000 pets have been adopted through Clear the Shelters™, an initiative spearheaded by NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations.

MoVal Firefighters Save Homes, Businesses from Holy Fire

Moreno Valley firefighters were instrumental in saving homes and businesses during the Holy Fire, which has burned nearly 23,000 acres in Orange and Riverside counties.

Moreno Valley Fire Engines 2, 65, and 99 were dispatched to the Holy Fire on August 6 as part of Strike Team 600IA. Firefighters helped to protect property in the communities of Temescal Canyon, Lake Elsinore, and El Cerrito.

Thousands of structures were threatened and more than 20,000 people were forced from their homes as the wildfire ripped through the Cleveland National Forest, destroying at least 14 structures as it made its way to Lake Elsinore and nearby communities.

More than 1,300 firefighters battled the towering blaze, preventing more structures from being damaged or destroyed.

A news crew from Channel 7 KABC captured Moreno Valley Firefighter Patrick Odell comforting a resident who watched as firefighters fought to save his sister’s house.

Firefighters saved the home.

Moreno Valley Animal Shelter Pet of the Week

Each week the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter highlights a pet available for adoption in the hopes of finding them a forever home.

This week's Pet is Auggie.

Auggie (#A488038) is a sweet three-year-old Shorthair Chihuahua. He is a dog that is eager to meet and make new friends.
