Adopt-A-Highway Sprucing Up Pigeon Pass Freeway Exits
The Pigeon Pass Road/Frederick Street on-ramp and off-ramp to State Route 60 is being spruced up as part of the City’s first weed and litter abatement under the California Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway Program.

The City Council approved the pilot program to coordinate with a Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway contractor to sponsor a clean-up at this location. Caltrans remains the primary agency responsible for the regular maintenance of state-right-of-ways including this location.

The Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway Program has the potential of becoming a helpful resource in the City’s ongoing commitment to Keep Moreno Valley Beautiful.

Moreno Valley firefighters will be collecting new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment at the Moreno Valley Walmart this weekend.

ABC7 and Southern California Firefighters are celebrating their 26th Anniversary of the Spark of Love Toy Drive.

Over the past 26 years, the Spark of Love Toy Drive has collected more than ten million toys.

The campaign collects new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for underserved children and teens in Riverside County and nearby counties. Toys collected in Moreno Valley are given to children in Moreno Valley.

This year, the Spark of Love is partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. This nationwide program is celebrating 71 years of collecting and distributing toys.

With firefighters and Marines standing side by side, we believe this will be the biggest Spark of Love yet.

Officers Bring Thanksgiving to 7-year-old Battling Leukemia
Moreno Valley police officers helped make a little girl’s battle with leukemia a little more bearable this Thanksgiving.

Officers paid 7-year-old Naomi a visit to deliver her a Thanksgiving feast and donations they collected to help her win her battle against cancer. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and teens, accounting for nearly one out of three cancers.

Officer Joe Cornejo coordinated the effort, along with Operation Juice Box , to help Naomi, who has been battling leukemia for the last eight months.

Operation Juice Box is a non-profit group that provides officers with juice boxes to pass out to children in the areas they patrol. The group’s mission is to build positive relationships between law enforcement and children, one juice box at a time.

Officer Kevin Brooks and Operation Juice Box donated the meal to Naomi and her family.

City's After School Provider Works to Support Dual Immersion Students
Oluwadamilola is a first-grader in the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program at Armada Elementary, where all of her interactions and work during the school day are in Spanish.

Her parents, who do not speak Spanish, signed her up for the City’s afterschool program, Afterschool Education and Safety (ACES), to support her with her homework.

The program supports DLI students like Oluwadamilola with their Spanish homework while also helping them practice English reading through Scholars of Success. This program helps students achieve math and literacy mastery.

ACES also supports bilingual literacy by ensuring that students are practicing their sight words after their homework is done.

By partnering with schools, ACES is able to provide students with opportunities to develop their multilingual literacy skills and be college and career ready. 
Sandbags Available to Residents
The City of Moreno Valley is providing residents free sandbags and/or loose sand when rain is in the forecast.

When necessary, free sandbags will be available at the City’s Corporate Yard located at 15670 Perris Boulevard and at any Fire Station located throughout the city.

Loose sand will also be available at the City Yard and at specific locations as supplies are available. Residents should bring shovels to fill up to 25 sandbags per household.
