Howdy, and thanks for stopping by! We are incredibly excited to kick off our very own agricultural economics podcast and newsletter for your listening and reading pleasure. The podcast and a newsletter “companion” will be released like clockwork each Monday morning at 8 am. Both formats aim to have the same information only differing in delivery. Our goal is to provide real-time, unbiased information on the agricultural economy in a fun and useful format.
Weekly topics will include risk management, agricultural policy updates, macroeconomics, and commodity markets –to name a few. The newsletter and podcast will also contain weekly updates to local commodity cash (and futures) prices, fertilizer prices, rainfall forecasts, and current water levels in the Mississippi River. We believe readily available information helps manage risk and ensure a successful agricultural enterprise. Please join me in our discussion next week on the disparity between crop prices received and input prices paid – a very important topic given the current commodity market climate.
Additionally, we wanted to briefly discuss our methodology for collecting weekly price data. Prices will be collected through personal and professional networking channels, via phone calls, emails, and face-to-face interactions with agriculture producers and sellers of inputs. Reported prices for various inputs and cash crops are derived from different regions in Arkansas, ensuring a wide and reliable data set. Utilizing price updates will allow producers and those in the ag industry to gain access to additional market information from these trusted sources. We hope this information will further assist producers in their on-farm risk management decisions.
