New York City remains under a Blizzard Warning from the National Weather Service until 6:00 PM this evening. Additional snow accumulations of up to 14 inches are anticipated throughout the day. Please exercise extreme caution if you must be outdoors and allow extra time for any necessary travel.
Chinatown BID Operations
The Chinatown BID Clean Streets ambassadors are currently on the ground working to clear snow and ice from key crosswalks, bus stops, and fire hydrants throughout the district. We are working diligently to keep our neighborhood’s main pedestrian paths as safe as possible during this major storm.
Do Your Part
As a reminder, property owners and businesses are legally required to keep their sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
-
Do Not Shovel Into the Street: Property owners may NOT push snow into the street. This impedes snow clearing operations and is illegal.
-
Placement: Snow may be moved against the building, to the curb line, or to areas on private property.
-
Clear Path: Sidewalks should be passable for all pedestrians, including a minimum 4-foot clear path where possible.
Required Snow Clearing Timelines
Businesses should inform their employees of procedures for delayed openings and specific sidewalk clearing responsibilities.
If the snow stops falling between:
-
7 AM and 4:59 PM: You must clear sidewalks within 4 hours.
-
5 PM and 8:59 PM: You must clear sidewalks within 14 hours.
-
9 PM and 6:59 AM: You must clear sidewalks by 11 AM.
Trash and Recycling Collection
DSNY has announced delays in residential trash collection. Merchants and residents should hold trash inside until the next collection if you are able. Updates will be posted on 311, the DSNY website, and on social media channels.
