Kenya Mission is Coming Soon

A huge thank you to all who have donated money, school supplies, or other items for our mission trip to Kenya in January! We are well on our way to being able to accomplish all our projects, but we're not quite there yet. We are still several thousand dollars short of having enough to fund all the construction and medical projects. We are also in need of a few specific items: receiving blankets, preemie-sized hats, and toothbrushes. And we would like to buy several more puncture-proof soccer balls.  Please ask me any questions you may have about specific donations.

In order to be prepared to leave on January 4, I must have all donations by December 12 Some of you have asked if it is safe to go to Kenya in view of the political troubles there. Our contact people in the country are confident that we will be fine, and our team leaders are confident that the folks in Kenya will be honest about letting us know if the situation changes. Thank you for your concerns, and keep the prayers coming.

Financial Update

When the finance committee met in November, we felt we have adequate cash flow to approve sending an additional $3,000 towards the payment of our apportionments.  That amount helps, but we are still very behind in paying our apportionments this year.

You are invited to prayerfully consider a special designated gift for apportionments at this time.  Please make a note on the check that your donation is for apportionments, our Shared Ministries, that supports the work of our Cascadia District, the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference, and The United Methodist Church both nationally and globally.

Open Door Churches News

We are very excited for all the opportunities in our Open Door Churches for a meaningful Advent Season.  There is something for everyone - Labyrinth Walk, Alternative Christmas Market, Concerts by the "Just for Fun Singers" and John Nilson, Family festivals and celebrations. and the Blue Christmas service.  Attend a few events to nurture your spirit this season, prepare for the birth of Jesus and find yourself saying, "Yes, let's go to the manger!"

Winter clothing items are needed at the Jason Lee Food Bank.  Particularly coats, hats, gloves, socks and items for children.  Drop them off at your local church or Jason Lee.

An Open Door Churches Board planning retreat is scheduled for February 9-10 with leadership from Bill Gipson, Director of Strategic Faith Community Development for the Greater Northwest areas of the UMC and Tim  Overton-Harris, our District Superintendent.
