EveryDay Stewards:
Annual Stewardship Campaign
We will complete our annual stewardship campaign this week with the consecration of our pledge cards at the end of the 10:30 worship service. Bring your completed pledge cards to worship or complete it during the service.
Everyone should have received their pledge cards by now - either after the service last week or in the mail. If you haven't received one, cards will be available on Sunday before the consecration.
The consecration of our pledges will be followed by a time of celebration during our fellowship hour next Sunday on November 11th.
May this be a time of reflection and growth in our faith as we consider how we each embrace being EveryDay Stewards. |
Sermon Series

"Embrace Faithfulness"
Hebrews 11:1-3; 12:1-2
Sunday, November 4th at 8:30 and 10:30 AM
Completing our EveryDay Stewards Sermon Series this week, Pastor Wendy brings us a message of faith - the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not see. We will affirm our faithfulness with the consecration of our annual pledges and celebrate the faithful who have gone before us as we commemorate All Saints Day.
See you at Morningside.

Labyrinth Worship & Walk
Friday, Dec. 7th, 7:00 pm (Worship)
Saturday, Dec. 8th, 1:00 - 6:00 pm (Labyrinth)
This year we are having a two day labyrinth event. On the evening of December 7th there will be a worship service at 7 PM filled with the music of Christmas.
Don Main and Sharon Cooper will be sharing Christmas music on clarinet and piano. The musical arrangements are sure to surprise! The worship experience will begin in a spirit of celebration and move toward a more reflective tone. Introductions and guidelines will be given for walking the labyrinth at the December 7th worship service.
The labyrinth will be available Saturday afternoon, December 8, from 1 pm to 6 pm. Christmas music is reflective and music of hope. During the labyrinth walk Saturday soft Christmas carols will be playing. As we walk with the Christmas music of hope and reflect on the meaning of Christmas we invite all who participate to release concerns for a brief time. Finger labyrinths will be available, also, on Saturday.
We invite all who walk on December 8th to simply walk in peace and allow the insights of the Advent season arise in the mind and heart as it will.

A Whole Lot of Thank Yous!
Seems like so many have been doing so much to help lately. Here are a few "thank yous" that have come in to be shared.
Congregations Helping People: A BIG thanks for the financial contributions and volunteer hours. Year to date, CHP has provided assistance to 382 individuals and families with significant needs such as rental and utility assistance, bus passes and more. CHP continues to need volunteers on a weekly or twice monthly basis, however. Send an email to [email protected] if you can help.
Habitat for Humanity: Thank you to all those who attended the HopeBuilder Breakfast in October. The event was a great success with $64,000 raised so far and donations still coming in. (We had quite the Morningside representation at the event!)
Walk 4 Alzheimer's: A Note of Thanks from Brigitte Rolph.
Time flies! I apologize for not contacting all the Morningside supporters of TEAM DIANE about the successful "Walk 4 Alzheimer's" more timely.
It was an exciting and meaningful event. There were about 1,000 walkers that day. The weather was perfect and some of the Morningsiders crossed the new pedestrian bridge to Minto Brown for the first time. All in all total donations were about $50,000! Morningside's share was over $2,000.
Diana and I thank all of you for your generous donations and participation. Thank you! Thank you! God bless all of you! -Brigitte

The next Board meeting will be November 26, 6:00pm.

Go to opendoorchurches.org to see information about each of the churches and ways you can be involved.
Open door Churches October Board Meeting Notes:
The Open Door Churches Board meeting was held at Morningside UMC on Monday October 22nd.
Pat Gillespie presented the 2019 Clergy Compensation plans for the Open Door Churches clergy. After considering the pastors request that they not receive a raise at this time, the board voted not to recommend any increases in Clergy Compensation and benefit to the Charge Conference October 30th.
Mark Bateman gave a preliminary update about the Solar panels for the churches. It was approved to ask a committee (chaired by David Cox) to move forward to begin the process of fund-raising in the Open Door Churches' name to put solar panels on the roofs of every Open Door Church. This also allows the committee to promote investment in Oregon Power Co-op funding for the Open Door Projects.
Vickie Plasker, Pastor Sandy, Pat Gillespie and others are on a committee to complete the Englewood UMC assessment. A report will be given next month.
Pastor Sandy has arranged for a Cultural Competency Training to be held at Trinity on Saturday November 17th, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This will be led by Kristina Gonzalez, Director of Innovation for an Inclusive Church for the Greater Northwest Area of the UMC. Kristina has worked in this field for 20 years. Everyone is invited to attend. From 1:30-5:00 the Board will receive additional training based on the assessments each board member will complete online.
After some discussion the board decided to become a legal United Methodist entity.
The Open Door Churches Charge Conference will be at First UMC on Tuesday October 30th at 7 p.m.
The next board meeting will be at Trinity UMC on Monday, November 26th at 6:00 p.m.
