Spring 2021
Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week!

Mosaic Medical offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for the community to help us advance our mission.
Vaccination Clinics
We just celebrated our first week of partnering with volunteers at our Courtney vaccination clinic. Last week we had almost 40 volunteers take time out of their day to guide patients through the vaccination experience.

See next article for more information on how to sign up to volunteer.
Patient Advisory Councils
Our patients can volunteer on their clinic's Patient Advisory Council (PAC), meeting quarterly to ensure that we remain responsive to patient needs. Our main clinics each have a PAC, and Bend and Madras offer this volunteer opportunity for our English-speaking patients AND Spanish-speaking patients.
Board of Directors
Mosaic is governed by a volunteer, patient-majority board with patient representatives from Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties. The remainder of our board seats are filled by community members who are passionate about high quality, equitable healthcare that is accessible to everyone.
Thank you to all of our valued volunteers!

How You Can Help Build Vaccine Confidence
Watching the numbers of Americans who have received the COVID-19 vaccine rise daily is inspiring. A return to our normal activities is just around the corner!

Interested in helping to speed the process along? Take a look at the action items below:

PRE-REGISTER
Sign up today for your COVID-19 vaccine—and encourage your friends and family to do so as well. It only takes two minutes, and pre-registration is open to all at www.centraloregoncovidvaccine.com.

VOLUNTEER
Mosaic Medical, in partnership with Deschutes County, is recruiting volunteers to staff Mosaic’s COVID-19 vaccination clinics at our Courtney Clinic on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Volunteers will help with check-in, traffic flow, and check-out.

If you are interested in supporting our region’s vaccination response, please click here to fill out an application with Deschutes County. If you have questions regarding our volunteer opportunities, please email [email protected].

ADVOCATE
It is going to take all of us working together to end the COVID-19 pandemic, and vaccines are the key. Please do your part to support vaccine confidence!

We are proud of Mosaic's own Mark Press, FNP and Clinic Medical Director, for sharing his personal viewpoint and participating in a vaccine confidence project with Deschutes County. View the video on YouTube here.

Brighter Smiles Campaign Coming Soon!
Did you know? Mosaic inherited the Brighter Smiles campaign from the Kemple Memorial Children’s Dental Clinic last year, and all funds raised from the campaign will go towards our Kemple Children’s Dental Fund, which covers the cost of dental services for kids in need in Central Oregon.

The campaign will run from May 1 through June 30. During the campaign, participating dental offices will provide whitening services for 50% of the normal cost to their patients.

The campaign is a true win-win for all involved. Patients get a gorgeous white smile for a great price, participating dentists receive valuable marketing exposure throughout the campaign, and Mosaic Medical is infused with critical funding to cover the cost of dental services for children in need in the community.

Several local dental offices have already signed on to help local children. Thank you!

Mosaic provides participating offices with the bleaching product as well as promotional materials and follow-up support. The dental offices donate the cost of creating bleaching trays and offer whitening services to patients for half price ($200). Patients write their checks out to Mosaic Medical for the services, and all funds raised will be used to provide essential dental care to kids in need.

We are actively recruiting additional dental offices with the goal of having all participants confirmed by the end of April. If you would like to participate in this campaign but don’t see your dental office listed, reach out and encourage them to sign up by emailing Angela Saraceno at [email protected].

For more information on the campaign, visit mosaicmedical.org/brighter.
Conners Health Center Opening in Autumn
In the last few months construction on Mosaic's new Conners Health Center in Bend has been moving ahead rapidly. The project is a partnership with Housing Works, the regional housing authority for Central Oregon.

“The exterior of the facility is really taking shape now with the building envelope and exterior walls being constructed, windows scheduled to be installed through the rest of the month and exterior siding being placed in the next few weeks,” said Michael Marino, Facilities Manager at Mosaic Medical.

The health center and Mosaic Pharmacy (open to the public) will occupy the ground floor. The upper three floors will be a 47-unit apartment building housing low-income seniors. Six of the apartments will be set aside for qualifying patients of Mosaic who have chronic medical conditions that create barriers to independent living.

The health center will be located on Bend's East side, across from the existing Complex Care Center on Conners Ave.
Perspective: Interpreting and Gender Identity
When it comes to interpreting, Mosaic's dedicated team knows that neutrality and accuracy are paramount.

Jacqueline Hinds, Spanish Certified Healthcare Interpreter™ and Language Access Training Specialist at Mosaic Medical shares her perspective in a guest blog post. Jacquie was inspired to write down her thoughts following a meaningful interaction with an adolescent patient in transition. Read it here.
Thank you to Our Community Partners!

We are so grateful to our community partners for funding initiatives that help vulnerable populations and improve access to quality care for everyone in Central Oregon. Below are just a few examples of recent awards that are making a difference in the lives of Mosaic patients. Thank you to all of our supporters for making our work possible.
Over the past year, First Interstate Bank has donated both considerable time and financial resources toward distributing thousands of reusable masks to our patients. We are grateful for their continued partnership.
The Dottie and Eli Ashley Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation donated $5,000 in support of our mobile clinic program to ensure those experiencing homelessness can access affordable and accessible healthcare services.
Bend Family Dentistry is going above and beyond to help us provide critical dental care to children in need by participating in our Brighter Smiles campaign on a year-round basis.
Mosaic Medical is a nonprofit community health center that serves all Central Oregonians, regardless of life circumstances. Through a network of 15 clinics, we offer integrated health services that address each patient’s medical, dental, behavioral health, nutrition and medication needs.
