Northern Island (plus detail) - by Cheryl O

Greetings Cheryl O Art,

I am currently working on a 3 painting landscape series done in thicker paints (for Heavy Body Acrylic or Oil). I must admit that I am having fun putting this together. I redid the Island painting using a palette knife, as shown above, and it will be 1 of the 3 featured paintings. Oil was used for the demonstration, but heavy body acrylic would work with this painting just a well.

Feel free to give me some feedback. What type of paint are you using, and what painting subject would you love to learn more about? Thanks in advance.

Meanwhile, I also made a short video about the $7. sample lesson called Fuchsia Flower. This sample lesson and/or the 3 video Flowers Bundle would make great Christmas gifts for the painters in your life. Or gift yourself! (Hopefully I am not the only one who buys myself a Christmas present.)

If it's a gift for someone else, after purchase, just send an email to Cheryl to tell her the first and last name and email address of the person that the gift is for, and they will be sent the access link. You can also specify "wait until Dec xx to send".

Here's the link to the info page about the Fuchsia painting:

Fuchsia Flow - with Cheryl O

For many of my art friends life happens and learning to paint is a dream that didn't get realized till later. That's all okay because it's a joy to learn at any age - you can do this! And kudos to my younger art friends who are making the time to paint now. It's never too late or too early to nurture your creative spirit.

Happy Painting Everyone,

Cheryl O

Fun Facts of the Famous

There will no doubt be different opinions on this, but a bit of online searching revealed those artists who are generally considered to be the top 4 painters of all time. They are:

1/ Leonardo da Vinci is frequently at the top of this list. Painter, sculptor, inventor - this man oozed creative.

The next 4 are often to be seen in 'top painters all time', but the order is highly contested.

2/ Vincent van Gogh is I believe the single most popular artist of all time. His luscious thick brush strokes, at times swirling across the canvas, carry an energy that everyone loves.

3/ Michelangelo was contemporary to, and at times in competition with, Leonardo. His most famous work is found on the ceiling and walls of the Sistine Chapel.

4/ Rembrandt is the second Dutch artist on the list. Most famous for his painting "The Night Watch" his dark backgrounds add a sense of drama to many of his works.

Number 5 was just too contested to pin down: could be Picasso, or Monet, or Vermeer, or O'Keeffe, or one of many others. Who would you pick to add to the list if you could add just one more name? Let me know and I will publish the results in the next art newsletter.
