A Message from our Pastor and Teacher
|
Mother's Day Sunday, May 8 ~~“The Voice of the Shepherd”
In our scripture passage, Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice. I know them and they follow me.” With so many voices competing for our attention in today’s culture, how can we hear the shepherd’s voice? What needs to be set aside, turned down, put off until later so that you can pause and listen, too? May we hear the Divine voice of unconditional love and complete acceptance.

Notice of Special Congregational Meeting
|
On April 30, covenanting members of RUCC were notified of a special Congregational meeting to be held on May 22:
The Board voted unanimously to call a Special Congregational Meeting Sunday, May 22, 2022 following worship to vote on the following motion:
The Board recommends that the Congregation approve the purchase and installation of another organ to replace our current Noack organ, with these conditions:
- The new organ will be chosen by the Organ Committee, which includes our music director Jim Tong and accompanist Sophia Ohanian.
- Modifications to the Sanctuary to fit the new organ will be minor and will be approved by Stewards before they’re made.
- The total amount spent to purchase, refurbish, transport, and install the organ will be within the balance in the Organ Fund.
Voting is open to covenanting members. Absentee ballots will be emailed to covenanting members through Realm or a hard copy may be picked up at the church office. Completed ballots may be returned to the church office by mail or given to an officer of the church (Mary Fung, Janet Wilson, Dan Abushanab, or Sue Hammond) prior to the Special Congregational Meeting.

From the Environmental Justice Team
|
The current drought is forcing significant cuts in water use in areas that rely heavily on the State Water Project for their water, Hayley Smith and Ian James report in a story in the L.A. Times: “To survive drought, parts of SoCal must cut water use by 35%. The new limit: 80 gallons a day.”
Although the Redlands area is not currently required to cut water use to this extent, doing our best to conserve water is clearly the prudent thing to do. The article points out that outdoor water use accounts for as much as 70% of water use in the affected area, but that indoor water use could also be improved. The story includes a table of water used for common indoor activities. You can go to the Save Our Water website (https://saveourwater.com/) for information on ways to save water around your home.

Wow! What a Rummage Sale!
|
We had a terrific RUCC Rummage Sale this past Saturday. We reused, repurposed, recycled, had fun, worked hard, and made so many people happy. We also made money; the sale profit was $2976.40 which will be donated to Family Services, Steps 4 Life, and Women of Faith.
It will be a few weeks before we know the proceeds from the eWaste collection. That money will go to the church’s campership fund. Thank you to so many people who worked hard, donated wonderful “treasures”, and helped in so many ways before, during, and after the Sale. You made a difference. We’ll return in 2023!

Cynthia Needs Our Help Now
|
Cynthia McGuigan has spent her life fighting and advocating for others, and now it is our turn to help Cindy fight for her life. In late 2021 Cindy was diagnosed with advanced small cell lung cancer. Cindy has endured countless treatments, appointments, hospital visits, and huge medical costs since her diagnosis. At this time Cindy is hoping to pursue a new, potentially life saving treatment, that is not covered by health insurance.
Cindy is the founder and executive director of Steps 4 Life Community Services a transitional supportive housing program here in Redlands, and she has also performed outreach and service with countless other agencies that help the community. Cynthia has dedicated decades of her life solely to helping others, it's our turn to help her. Please hit the "Help Cindy" button below to be directed to her Go Fund Me page.
