Mothers Testify at Capitol:

Our Children are Compatible with LOVE!

LA Abortion-Until-Birth Amendment Defeated!

Good morning Benjamin,

I hope you had (and are continuing to have) a blessed Easter celebration!

First, thank you for your help in defeating the Abortion-Until-Birth Amendment!

Second, last week, three mothers courageously testified at the Capitol sharing their testimonies about the pressure they received to abort their babies with disabilities. Two of these mothers brought their children who are still alive despite the diagnosis!

Janina Bernard from Lake Charles said about her son with Trisomy 13, “My OBGYN called me and she said with the physical abnormalities like cleft lip and intellectual disabilities that my baby would not survive. That if he did survive, he would live a month. At that moment that is the most information I got about my son. …We saw the high risk doctor [that said] the only option is abortion. … But now my son is thriving. He is eight.”

These testimonies compelled the Senate committee to vote favorably of SB 325, the Compatible with Love Empowerment Act. This legislation, initiated by Louisiana Right to Life, ensures families who receive a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis receive resources for concrete help and positive information to help them care for their child as long as the child lives.

Under current Louisiana law, it is unfortunately still legal to have an abortion in these cases. But there are many families who might not choose that if they were to see the bountiful community of emotional, physical, and financial support available to them.

We understand the deep grief and challenges families face when they receive such a diagnosis. We also know all life is valuable, and these babies deserve a chance at life and love no matter how brief their life may be!

For a Pro-Life Louisiana,

P.S. Sadly, the Florida Supreme Court RULED that an amendment to legalize abortion through all nine-months of pregnancy will be on the ballot this fall. Pray for Florida!

P.P.S. Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a critical case to hold the FDA accountable for their reckless abortion pill policies. The decision will come down this summer.
