LIBATION FOR BABA USENI PERKINS

Useni Perkins (Sept. 13, 1932 - May 7, 2023) was a tall tree literally and philosophically in our forest of brilliant thinkers/leaders. May he rest in power, Ase.

It was an honor and a privilege to know Baba Perkins. He was a humble and gentle giant who generously shared his knowledge with all who would listen with special focus and love for our youth. He scheduled two book signings with our bookstore and one that we partnered with Trinity United Church of Christ. The first one was 8 years ago where he recited his most well-known classic poem, "Hey Black Child" which we uploaded on Youtube. He did another signing recently after publishing, "Kwame Nkrumah's Midnight Speech for Independence" through Just Us Books, Inc available on Youtube. Baba Perkins also gave us permission to make the audio version of his play, "Black Fairy" available as a downloadable link. Baba Perkins' accolades are many and also detailed in a youtube interview done by Dr. Gloria Peace, " "In Our Own Images," Part 1," an H3O Art of Life Show, Featuring Ancestor Useni Eugene Perkins and Ancestor Kwesi Ronald Harris. Please click on the link to hear his wisdom flow. His presence will be greatly missed and we are thankful that he left a legacy for the generations to learn from.
