Motorcycle Show Revs Up New York We mentioned in the greeting about the weather changing here in North Carolina where we can get back out and ride. When you're saddling up in late February or early March, remember these guys up in New York who usually have to wait just a little bit longer. It's also good to see a motorcycle show put an emphasis on safety. Good stuff. |
New Motorcycle Law in North Carolina We mentioned this in an earlier edition of the Motorcycle Newsletter, but since it's the New Year and the law is in play, we'll mention it again. A new law requires anyone under 18 who applies for a motorcycle license in North Carolina to pass a safety class. The course, which is also required for those seeking a learner's permit or motorcycle endorsement, must be taught by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or the N.C. Motorcycle Safety Education Program. The new law also says that a person less than 18 years of age may not ride a motorcycle with a passenger. Check out an article about the law here. |
Weekly Riding Tip: Dragging a Peg
Most of us do not need to test our riding limits, but it still happens that you might someday find yourself leaning too far into a curve and hear/feel your peg start to drag. What should you do?
There are three things that can be done as soon as you hear/feel a peg scrape:
1. INCREASE throttle - modestly, to momentarily lift the frame of your bike.
2. Counter-steer away from the dragging peg: widen the turn.
3. Shift body weight TOWARD the dragging peg. THAT IS NOT A MISPRINT.
Each of these actions tends to straighten the bike up. Any one of them will cure the problem and is sufficient by itself. You can, of course, do two or all three of these things at the same time. Shifting your body weight towards the dragging peg is the safest and most recommended solution.
