Racing News from NEMRR, WSBK, MOTOGP, MOTO AMERICA,

Formula 1, Indycar, and Sportscar Championships

Published each week by Steve Aspland, and Greg Sarni.

Before we get to the racing news we just want to take a moment to thank you for your readership. The open rate on our weekly updates is more than double the industry average. We're grateful you value our take on the racing scene, rather than just relying on what is offered up by race series and manufacturer news. It tells us that independent, unbiased input still matters to you.

We are blessed with another Formula 1/MotoGP weekend, with both series racing in Southeast Asia. F1 is on the streets of Singapore for the Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix night race. MotoGP races in Mandalika this weekend at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia. WorldSBK has two rounds remaining in 2026, with the Tissot Estoril Round this weekend, followed by next weekend's Pirelli Spanish Round from Jerez. Read on for race previews.

Last weekend MotoGP raced the Motul Grand Prix of Japan at Motegi Mobility Resort, where the World Championship got a lot closer. Formula 1 was in Malaysia for the Gulf Air Grand Prix of Bahrain, where we had a winner from a fourth different team in 2026. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship raced their final round of the 2026 calendar at Motul Petit Le Mans, with champions crowned at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Race coverage follows.

The 2026 NEMRR season closed out at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on October 3-4, and the weather cooperated from start to finish. Both mornings were cool, both afternoons were sunny and about as good as it gets for racing in New England. With double points on the table for the final round, several championships were still open when the riders rolled onto the grid Saturday, and the biggest of them came down to the last feature race of the year.

MOTOAMERICA - Bobby Fong took the 2026 MotoAmerica Quad Lock Superbike Championship in the final race of the season at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

It was easily one of the most exciting and competitive season's in MotoAmerica history and a great way to conclude the 50th year celebration of AMA Superbike racing.

But it is time to look forward now and tickets to a couple of events for 2027 are already on sale. The season will kick off with the Supersport class Daytona 200 race in March.

The 85th Daytona 200 is slated for March 11th - 13th. The 3.51-mile road course and its famous high banks will again serve as the opening round of the MotoAmerica Supersport championship. Three feature classes follow as Mission King Of The Baggers, Twins Cup and Super Hooligans classes cap off the world-famous two-wheeled pilgrimage that is Daytona Bike Week.

Josh Herrin is the defending champion. His 2026 victory was his fourth Daytona 200 win in a row and his fifth overall, making him the first rider in history to win four straight.

Tickets are on Sale For Daytona and Road America

Also, tickets are on sale now for the return of MotoAmerica Superbikes to Road America, June 4th - 6th. By reserving early, fans can also lock in trackside camping, golf cart rentals, and premium hospitality upgrades for the weekend.

This is the one circled on every rider's calendar. Road America's legendary 4.048-mile layout lets the Quad Lock Superbike field stretch their legs past 190 mph, delivering the kind of wide-open, elbow-to-elbow racing you simply don't see anywhere else. Three days of racing action, open paddock access, and family fun zones, all set inside 640 acres of Wisconsin parkland.

For the second consecutive year, MotoAmerica set a new attendance record for a motorcycle event at Road America in 2026, with tens of thousands of passionate fans making it the largest motorcycle road racing weekend in the track's history — topping the record set in 2025. The annual pilgrimage to Elkhart Lake keeps getting bigger.

MOTOGP - Marc Marquez struck back at Motegi last weekend, sweeping the Motul Grand Prix of Japan Sprint and GP. His performance narrowed the gap to title leader Jorge Martin to just two points going into this weekend's Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.

The Spaniard on the Aprilia maintained his lead in the Championship, claiming 20 points on Sunday, finishing 1.363 seconds behind reigning World Champion Marc Marquez. Martin's Aprilia Racing teammate Marco Bezzecchi finished P3, which put him back to 49 points behind Martin.

Jorge Martin grabbed the holeshot from pole, with Marc Marquez slotting into P2, ahead of Bez and brother Alex, who had to serve a double long lap penalty on the Gresini Ducati. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Pedro Acosta started on the outside of Row 1, but slid back to P5 at the start.

Marc Marquez Bests Jorge Martin at Motegi

By Lap 8 the Austrian GP winner was P8, with Red Bull KTM Tech3's Enea Bastianini, SuperFile Trackhouse's Raul Fernandez and teammate Ai Ogura all getting by Acosta.

By midway, Martin and Marquez had stretched a gap to Bezzecchi and the following horde. In Turn 9 on Lap 11 Marc Marquez made his move up the inside of Martin for the lead. Martin had no response with both Bezzecchi and Bastianini lapping quicker than Jorge Martin.

Martin briefly inched closer toe Marc Marquez, putting in consecutive laps quicker than Marc. But the Ducati Lenovo rider responded by pulling the pin and increasing the gap to P2. Meanwhile the Beast closed on Bez, clocking four straight fastest laps of the Japanese GP, pressuring the Aprilia for a podium. But Bezzecchi was not going to surrender any more points to his teammate and beat Bastianini to the line by .078s.

It was the 79th MotoGP win for Marc Marquez, putting him within 10 of all-time premier class winner Valentino Rossi. Raul Fernandez completed the top five in Japan, edging his teammate Ai Ogura in his home GP.

WORLDSBK - The 2027 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship races their next to the last round this weekend at the Tissot Estoril Round. Notice it isn't the overused, British-derived Motorsports term - "penultimate round." Do you ever say "I am on my penultimate beer?" No. You do not. That's our terminology logic lesson for the day.

At the last round in Italy, Nicolo Bulega clinced the 2026 Riders' Championship. The Italian is the tenth different rider to claim the Riders' Championship with Ducati. Bulega has produced a remarkable campaign aboard the Ducati Panigale V4 R, claiming 26 victories in 30 races. With 602 points, Bulega holds an advantage of 133 points over second place; Aruba Ducati teammate Iker Lecuona. This year's championship has seen either Bulega or Lecuona (who swept the Italian Round) as the only series' winners on the updated 2026 Ducati Panigale V4 R.

Alex Lowes is P4 in the 2026 WorldSBK Championship

Bulega is the first Italian WorldSBK Champion since Max Biaggi, who claimed the 2012 title, ending a 14-year wait for an Italian rider to return to the top of the championship. Bulega has 26 wins so far this season. He is one short of Alvaro Bautista’s record of 27 victories in a single WorldSBK season, set in 2023.

Speaking of Italian riders, current Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team MotoGP rider Franco Morbidelli was announced on Monday, October 5th as Bulega's 2027 replacement on the Aruba Ducati WorldSBK squad. The two Italians are literally swapping seats, with Bulegas joining Valentino Rossi's MotoGP team in 2027.
