Hello Rana,

This is our newsletter to let you know about all of the amazing events going on in March and upcoming events this spring.


The Library will be closed Monday, April 1st, in observance of Easter Monday. 

 

All of these events and services are free to you! They are provided in part by our Friends of the Mount Airy Public Library and other funding sources.

Special Events

Stargaze With Us! - Friday, April 5th - starting at 9:00 pm - Join us for an enchanting night under the stars. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, telescopes and binoculars!


Digging for Your Appalachian Roots - These events are provided to you by the Friends of the Mount Airy Public Library and this project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.


Event #2 -An Afternoon with the Author Joyce Moyer Hostetter - April 6th at 12:00 pm - BAKERS MOUNTAIN STORIES – how a homework assignment led to a series of juvenile historical novels(AIM, BLUE, COMFORT, DRIVE AND EQUAL!) This presentation traces the birth of BLUE and the series as well as the research process, a brief polio history, and photos from a NC polio epidemic.


Solar Eclipse Watch Party - Monday, April 8th - starting at 2:00 pm - Glasses and snacks will be provided.


Weekly Events


STEAMed Up Tuesdays at 4:00 pm - Interactive fun and learning for grades K - 6. We will be making Christmas ornaments with various mediums.


All of our storytimes are available virtually. Have a sick child or the weather is bad, look for our storytime groups on Facebook and join us for a live storytime.


Wednesdays at 10:30 am

Toddler Time Storytime - storytime for 2 and 3 year olds, join us for stories, songs and crafts.

Middle Homeschool Mondays - Hey Homeschoolers, join us for Makerspace and STEAM related activities. For ages 11 and up. In the Multipurpose Room.


Mondays at 6:00

The A.V. Club at the Library -

for teens and preteens, we will be learning how to use video and sound production equipment.


CHESS CLUB - Each Wednesday from 4:30 - 7:30. Come join our group and hone your skills. Call the library for more information, 336-789-5108.



Monthly Events


Teen Advisory Board -April 29th at 6:00 pm - Teens and tweens, let your voice be heard! Join us for our inaugural meeting of the newly formed Teen Advisory Board. Share your ideas with your peers for book club selections, movie presentations, and teen programs. We will meet on the last Monday of every month at 6:00 pm, in lieu of the A/V Club.


Pre-Teen Book Club – April 18th at 4:00 pm - We will be reading "Greenglass House" by Kate Milford. Come out and meet other kids your age, snacks and socialization.


Teen Book Club- April 25th at 5:00 pm - We will be reading "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" by Edgar Allen Poe. Come out and meet other teens your age, snacks and socialization.

An Afternoon With the Author - Marjorie Hudson - April 7th from 2:00 to 4:00 - Join us as we welcome North Carolina author, Marjorie Hudson, as she talks about her book, Indigo Field. #WritersRoadShow2024


Solar Eclipse Watch Party - Monday, April 8th - starting at 2:00 pm - Glasses and snacks will be provided.  We have plenty of eclipse glasses, come join us.


Creative Crafting with Emily - Thursday, April 11th at 2:00 pm - Paper Flower Craft - Bring one small vase or mason jar. All other materials provided. Call the library to register! 336-789-5108.


Creative Crafting with Emily - Thursday, April 18th at 2:00 pm - Handmade Fabric Bowl - Bring a bowl to use as a mold and a mason jar to fit under the bowl. The bowl must fit upside down on top of the mason jar. You will take these items back home with you after 48 hours. All other materials are provided.  Call the library to register! 336-789-5108.


Friends of the Library - Spring Used Book Sale - April 17th - First Choice Sale 2:00 pm - 7:30 pm, April 18th - 8:30 am - 7:30 pm, April 19th - 8:30 am -4:30 pm, April 20th - 9:00 am - 12:30 pm, April 22nd - 8:30 am - 7:30 pm


Foodie Book Club - Thursday, April 25th at 2:00 pm - We will be reading, "My Kitchen Year: 136 Recipes that Saved My Life" by Ruth Reichl. Quiche to be served at the meeting! Books available at the Mount Airy Public Library.


Happy Healthy Hummingbirds - Thursday, April 25th at 2:00 pm -Bring a hanging basket and join us for a FREE gardening workshop presented by the Surry County Extension Master Gardeners. We will plant the basket with hummingbird favorites and learn proper care of these beautiful, tiny birds. Call 336-789-5108 to reserve your spot. 


An Afternoon With the Author - Audrey Schuyler Lancho - April 27th at 2:00 pm -Come out to the Mount Airy Public Library to hear local author, Audrey Schuyler Lancho, talk about her new book, 

Seven Days at Mannerly.

Wednesdays at 3:00 PM

Hooked - Join our crochet and knitting club, Wednesdays at 3PM. Open for all skill levels. Bring your own yarn and make the group project, or bring your own project to work on.


Tai Chi Fridays at 10 AM - Experience meditation in motion. All skill levels are welcome.

Cooking Club – The second Tuesday of the month at 2:00 pm. Our next meeting is April 9th our ingredient for April is dill! Bring one dish prepared with dill and share the recipe!


Murder, Mystery and Mayhem Book Club - April 30th at 5:30 p.m.. A book club for adults that focuses on murder, mayhem, true crime and other tales of terror. Fourth Wednesday of the Month at 1:00 PM

Community Book Club - North Carolina Reads is North Carolina Humanities’ statewide book club! North Carolina Reads annually features five books that explore issues of racial, social, and gender equity and the history and culture of North Carolina. All five books pose critical questions about how North Carolinians view their role in helping to form a more just and inclusive society. April's selection is, "American Refuge : True Stories of the Refugee Experience" by Diya Abdo. We will also host an online book discussion for the book, April 24, 2024 at 6:00 pm


Third Thursday of the Month at 11:30 AM Chapters Book Club - Read what you want and discuss with others.


Bad Art Afternoon at the Library - Every 4th Friday at 2:00 pm, next meeting April 26th. Join us to make wacky art. Not everything has to be a perfect masterpiece.


Third Saturday of the Month at 10:30 AM

It's Yoga Y'all!!! - Come join us the third Saturday of the month at 10:30 am.


Caring for Our Community

Food Donations - The Mount Airy Public Library is also collecting donations for Yokefellow Food Pantry. For April, dried beans and canned vegetables. Just drop your donations in the blue container in our entranceway.
