AKRON, OHIO MAY 1ST 2017 - Steel Shoe Nationals had previously scheduled a location in Michigan. Due to issues on the end of the promoters, a new location was selected for the August 26th date moving the race South to Mid-America Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. It looked like the possibility of a large national level race in Michigan was lost. That was until Jason Eddy of RacinJason Promotions contacted the Steel Shoe Nationals with not only a race track option but a perfect ½-mile cushion.
August 19, will be a night to remember at Mount Pleasant Meadows. Though the horses are long gone from this beautiful ½ mile dirt oval, a new kind of horsepower is about to be unbridled. Steel Shoe Nationals C.E.O. Christy Cottrell comments on the importance of having a Steel Shoe Nationals race event in Michigan.
“To not have a high caliber professional race in Michigan seemed like a horrible shame. This state has produced some amazing talents in flat track racing. Heck, the top two dirt trackers in the world are from Michigan. Okay, Mees is a PA. transplant but he lives in Michigan. Trust me, as an Ohio girl that’s hard to live down! I’m already taking some razzing about the state up North. In all seriousness, The Mitten State needs this to happen and I’m so happy we’re able to do it after all. I’m thankful for Jason Eddy’s involvement and his willingness to help us expand our sport to new quality tracks and markets. We set out to only organize five races in our series and we only wanted high-caliber events for riders and fans. Mount Pleasant Meadows will be another shining star on our Steel Shoe Nationals schedule.”
Rider turned promoter, Jason Eddy of RacinJason Promotions, is excited about the addition of a National level event returning to his home state of Michigan.
“My involvement in this sport spans many years and encompasses many great riders which I had the luxury to compete with and learn from. All of which I am thankful for the experience those racing years have afforded me. 25-years later my dreams have changed from becoming a National Number to bringing a National Flat Track race back to Michigan. I’m very excited for the opportunity to partner with Steel Shoe Nationals in bringing this dream to a reality. The race will be a great shot in the arm to the community’s economic growth and provide a quality track for our sport to be showcased. I couldn’t be more pleased with our involvement with the Steel Shoe Nationals in this endeavor.”
Built for horse racing and closed since 2014, though intended for Thoroughbred racing this is an unconventional size being a ½ mile and not the usual mile construction. Without the need to keep the track in training condition for horses means more can be done with the surface to make it very suitable for flat track. Short straightaways and long, sweeping turns coupled with a perfect cushion make Mount Pleasant Meadows a rider and fan trifecta of excitement. Not to mention the fan friendly grandstand with several viewing options. There isn’t a bad seat in the house.
RacinJason Promotions will hold an amateur race June 3rd at Mount Pleasant Meadows for those riders who want to get dialed in early.
