Dear Mount Pleasant residents and business owners,

 
The new year is off to a great start here at the Town of Mount Pleasant. On January 25th, Mayor Page and Town Council held their annual working retreat to discuss major Town projects, plans, and community priorities.
 
With Council's direction from the retreat, our staff is proceeding with preparing the annual budget, the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and the next Strategic Plan. Stay tuned for more information about all of these important documents.
 
Throughout 2016 we will be unveiling new ways to communicate and engage with our community members. Keep reading below to learn about our new mobile app, ConnectMP, as well as additional opportunities to be involved in your community such as the Mayor's Office Art program, our outreach events and more. We are excited about all that this new year will bring and we hope you are too.

Now Accepting Applications for the Mayor's Office Art Program

The Town of Mount Pleasant is accepting submissions for its 2016 Mayor's Office Art Program until March 1. Each selected Mount Pleasant artist will have his or her artwork showcased at Town Hall and to be viewed for two months by citizens and community leaders.

Mount Pleasant Recognized by Forbes Magazine
The prestigious Forbes Magazine recognized the Town of Mount Pleasant in its December 2015 issue for the Town's commitment to fostering a work/life balance for its citizens. New Online Sign-Up To Speak at Town Council Meetings
As part of the Town's ongoing efforts to increase public participation, a new online sign-up is available for those wishing to speak at the upcoming Town Council meeting. Citizens may also sign up to speak in person immediately before the Council meeting begins. For more information, please contact the Communications Office.

Did you know that the Town of Mount Pleasant now offers live streaming of the Town Council meetings and podcasts of both their Town Council and Committees of Council meetings? Some Town Offices Have Moved!  
Please note that the Fire Administration staff and Fire Marshal's Office have moved to their new modular units beside Fire Station 2 on Egypt Road. T he Public Services Department, Building License Division and the Planning Department have moved to Six Mile Fleet Maintenance Facility on Sweetgrass Parkway, Pinckney Place. For more information about Town office and staff relocation visit the Relocation Webpage.
Mount Pleasant Town Council Annual Retreat
On January 25, 2016 Mayor Page and Town Council held their annual working retreat at the Cooper River Room. During this retreat Council discussed major community plans, projects, and priorities. R. L. Jones Center Pool Re-Opening

The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department has opened the newly renovated indoor pool at its R.L. Jones Center facility. They invite the community to stop by and see the renovations, located at 391 Egypt Rd., and explore all that the department has to offer.

Government Outreach Activities
Community Roundtable Meetings
 
Town officials and staff are continuing to host informal roundtable meetings with community organizations, civic groups, and neighborhood associations. This small group format allows for more in-depth discussion in an informal setting. It also provides citizens with another opportunity to give their input and receive a response beyond public hearings and Town Council meetings.

Coffee with the Mayor
Last month's Coffee with the Mayor took place at Another Broken Egg Cafe where Mayor Linda Page met with residents to exchange information and discover ways to work together to improve Mount Pleasant.

The next Coffee with the Mayor will be held on February 8, 2016 at the Cracker Barrel in Mount Pleasant (2183 N. Highway 17) from 7:30 - 8:30 AM.The event is free and open to all! Please contact the Government Outreach Office at (843) 884 - 8517 for more information.

Town Administrator's Mobile Office Hours
 

The next monthly  Mobile Office Hours event will take place on February 16, 2016 at the Atlanta Bread Co. in Mount Pleasant (1712 Towne Centre Way) from 10 - 11 AM. Each month, the Town Administrator holds open office hours at various public facilities around the community. All citizens are invited to stop by and discuss items of interest to them.  No appointment necessary. HOA's And Stormwater Management
          

The Town of Mount Pleasant is committed to improving our stormwater services and maintaining the health of our surrounding water resources. Through the NDPES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) program, the Town will engage in a variety of activities to identify, detect, and eliminate potential sources of stormwater pollution in our community.
It takes an entire community to protect our waterways, which is why we need your help. HOA's and other neighborhood associations play a special role in maintaining our stormwater systems. Click here to learn more about how neighborhood associations can help to prevent stormwater pollution.
SCE&G Tree Pruning 2016

SCE&G will be pruning trees in Mount Pleasant beginning later this month as part of the company's five-year cycle to maintain public safety and electric system reliability.  In general, the 2016 trimming will include the following areas:
  • Mathis Ferry Road from Muirhead Road to 5th Avenue
  • Hobcaw Drive, Coinbow Drive and surrounding streets (Hobcaw Point)
  • 4th Avenue to 7th Avenue
  • Parts of Magrath Darby Blvd., Wingo Way and Sessions Way
  • The Groves - Lansing Drive, Cottingham Drive and surrounding streets
  • Equestrian Drive, Dragoon Drive and Williamson Drive off Johnnie Dodds Blvd.
  • Eastlake Drive (off Mathis Ferry Road)
  • Highway 17 North from the IOP Connector to Ivy Hall Subdivision
  • Highway 41 from Highway 17 to Dunes West Blvd.

The Experience Mount Pleasant mobile app just got even better! Now you can track your CARTA bus directly from the app.

Developed by Wholly App, Experience Mount Pleasant provides detailed information such as directions and telephone numbers for every hotel, eatery and attraction in the town. Special events are also spotlighted in the consistently updated calendar located within the app.

Other features of the app include weather updates, contact information for inquiring visitors and direct access to the town's social media sites.
