Town Administrator's E-Brief

From Town Administrator, Eric DeMoura           Town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

November 2014
Dear Mount Pleasant residents and business owners,

Welcome to the first in a series of monthly e-briefs that will keep you up-to-date on the latest Town news, projects, and events. This month's e-brief will focus on the state of our town, government outreach, capital projects, and police success stories and engagement initiatives.

Mount Pleasant is the fourth largest municipality in South Carolina and the ninth fastest growing in the nation. The decisions we make today during this time of robust growth will directly impact both current and future generations of residents.

For this reason it is more important than ever to strengthen the lines of communication between you and your government. Regular community dialogue is essential in maintaining and promoting our quality of life. It is critical that town government fosters an environment where opportunities exist to share opinions and ideas. And it is from this effort, that community priorities will arise to guide the important public policy decisions we face in Mount Pleasant.

To do this effectively, we need to have an engaged community. Town officials and staff are here to serve the public and to partner with community members to achieve common goals.

Our Government Outreach Office is responsible for implementing the Town's government outreach strategy by promoting civic engagement activities and by fostering community-wide conversations. We are currently holding small group meetings with various neighborhood associations and community groups and we look forward to attending one near you. Together, we will shape a great community for generations to come.

Best Regards,

Sweetgrass Basket Phase 4-A
Construction has begun on the extension of Sweetgrass Basket Parkway, recently named Billy Swails Boulevard. This entire roadway, when complete, will provide a third parallel route and an alternate North/South path through the town. The road is expected to open in time for the August 2015 opening of the new Jennie Moore Elementary and Laing Middle School campuses.  Learn More
New Town Hall Project Ready to Bid

The new Town Hall project will be set to bid in early 2015. The new facility will be located at the familiar 100 Ann Edwards Lane in Mount Pleasant. The new Town Hall is designed to better meet the increase in demand for services and will be functionally more efficient and durable than the current facility. A local firm, Stubbs, Muldrow, Herin Architects designed the new 90,000 sq/ft building and adjacent double gymnasium with a lowcountry flair that is both energy efficient and attractive.  Learn More
