Celebrating Black History Month
Black History Month celebrates the many achievements and contributions made by African-Americans to our economic, cultural, spiritual, and political development. Every Saturday during the month of February, the Town held a series of free events that focused on the African-American history and Gullah heritage of Mount Pleasant.
Sweetgrass Half Marathon
The Mount Pleasant Recreation Department announced the inaugural Sweetgrass Half Marathon race for Saturday, May 22, beginning and ending at the Park West Recreation Complex in Mount Pleasant.
Edmund Jenkins Plaque
The Mount Pleasant Police Department is honoring the life and service of the town’s first African American police officer, Edmund Jenkins, by dedicating a plaque in the lobby of police headquarters. Edmund Jenkins was a respected and faithful citizen, his life and service to the Town of Mount Pleasant is a valuable part of our history.

Physician's Plan Weight Loss + Wellness
Medical Director and Owner Dr. Christopher DiOrio, along with Mount Pleasant Council Member Kathy Landing, and Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Director of Development Rebecca Imholz, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Physician's Plan Weight Loss + Wellness, located at 1705 Beaucastel Road Unit #101, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
Maple Street Biscuit Company
Community Leader Richard Starling and General Manager Jackie Rierson, together with Mount Pleasant Council Members Kathy Landing, Howard Chapman, and Jake Rambo, along with Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce President Eddie Phipps and accompanying Board Members, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Maple Street Biscuit Company, located at 996 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. 
Bakies at I'on
Owner Gail Holdcraft and Bakery Manager Hannah Stone, together with Mayor Will Haynie and Council Members Kathy Landing and Jake Rambo, along with Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Vice President Michael Cochran, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Bakies at I'on, located at 264 N Shelmore Blvd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
Shem Creek Crab House
Charleston Crab House Owner John Keener and Partner Chaz Wendel, together with Mount Pleasant Council Members Kathy Landing and Gray Santos, along with Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce President-Elect Jennifer Maxwell, Vice President Michael Cochran, and President Emeritus Chris Staubes, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Shem Creek Crab House, located at 508 Mill St, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
