Even though we are beginning to wind down the year, our calendars remain packed with projects, special events, and community-focused happenings. This month's E-brief features the latest work we've completed on major stormwater projects, our successful Children's Day Festival and includes the details for our upcoming holiday weekend.

And with the holidays comes holiday shopping and we ask all residents to pledge to "Buy Local" this year. When you buy locally, you are keeping three times more money in your own community when compared to buying elsewhere. Our local business community is what distinguishes us from other shopping destinations and we are proud to support our Mount Pleasant-based businesses.

Mount Pleasant Ranks on WalletHub 'Small City' List
The Town of Mount Pleasant is ranked in the top 9% of 1,300 U.S. cities by WalletHub in their '2021's Best Small Cities in America' list. Mount Pleasant topped the list of 14 small cities named in South Carolina.

Royall Avenue Drainage Basin Groundbreaking

The Town of Mount Pleasant broke ground on the Royal Avenue Drainage Basin Improvement Project on October 1st. This is a critical stormwater improvement project that will enhance stormwater systems and drainage facilities in the basin. Residents should be prepared for construction activity as work begins on this vital project. For more information, please visit the project website at the link below. Buy Local and Feel Good

The Town of Mount Pleasant has joined forces with Lowcountry Local First for the 10th Annual Buy Local Season. When you gift shop this year, make sure to buy locally so that more of your hard-earned money stays in your local community. Staying local is more than just an economic stimulus, it is a great way to meet new people in the community, and you are investing in the welfare and future of the place you call home.

Successful Children's Day Festival
For the first time in two years, Mount Pleasant was able to hold the 34th Annual Children's Day Festival. The weather was perfect and the event was a huge success. The Town appreciates everyone who participated and is looking forward to seeing more adorable smiles next year.
Get In The Holiday Spirit
Save the date for the Holiday Market and Craft Show on December 11 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Browse whimsical holiday goodies and enjoy live music and more activities with a holiday twist. Don't wander away too far! The following day a Christmas Light Parade will dazzle Coleman Blvd. with fireworks and a parade starting at 5:30 p.m.

Concert at Town Hall
Join The Village Repertory Co. at Town Hall on November 14 at 5:00 p.m. to enjoy a night of music and storytelling under the stars.

Bring your own chairs and blankets. Picnics are allowed.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
Report Illicit Connections: An incident of a white paint-like substance entering a waterway was reported to the Town’s Stormwater division. Upon investigation, an illicit connection was found. An illicit connection is where a pipe or hose is directed into stormwater systems without permission.
 
With Engineering and Development Services and Public Services working as a team, the connection was addressed and the pollutant was removed from the stormwater system.
These illicit connections can introduce harmful pollutants into our waterways. If you suspect there is an illicit connection to a stormwater system, let us know and report it through our Report It! system.
