Pre-Clinic Information

Thank you for signing up for the Mountain Trail Clinic and Judge’s Master class. The clinic will start at 12:30 with a lecture / demo, no horses needed. After a short introduction we will run through each obstacle in hand and then under saddle at all 4 levels This portion is to show the riders how the obstacles should be navigated (hopefully) and score each obstacle by the judge’s panel.

Since many of the riders are new to Mountain Trail and you are not familiar with how things are scored we just want you to be aware that we have developed a new ‘hybrid’ scoring system that is only being used at Stone Gate Farm and Shenanigans Stables. While all the judges at all challenges are looking for the same thing, the way it is being scored is different, We think it’s easier to understand and more helpful to the riders.

After the demo we will begin with some in hand work before moving on to the obstacles. Please bring your horse with the saddle on, a halter (preferably a rope halter if you have one) and a long lead rope. Please have your bridle with you so you won’t have to go back to your trailer to get it. The riders will be divided into small groups and the judge’s panel and demo riders will be assigned obstacles as the groups rotate through the obstacles and get assistance from the judges and demo riders on how to best navigate the obstacles and what the judge is looking for.

We will only be working on the obstacles that are in the pattern for Sunday’s competition. If there is time we will work on some of the other obstacles. If not, you are welcome to stay and practice on the other obstacles.

Please remember HELMETS ARE REQUITED.
