Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project Newsletter

August 2025 News

Crossing the Great Divide

On behalf of a thousand volunteers who make the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project happen every year, we are honored to be featured by the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless on their website!

That being said, it is call-to-action-time NOW for blankets from the western US! Because of your proximity to this year's event, bringing your work to the unhoused of Denver reduces logistical challenges we otherwise face. Not to worry, though; we will provide information soon to make getting your blankets to Denver as convenient and cost-effective as we have for our blanket makers in the East for past displays.

Of course, we thank all of our friends in the eastern part of the country for all the work you continue to do to add to our blanket display for 2025, and we in no way wish to discourage that work. In fact, we continue to add blanket-in-a-day events for you to contribute (note other articles in this very newsletter). Rest assured, we will bound all hurdles to bring your stunning work to Colorado.

This year's Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project event on December 21st finds us teaming up with Denver's annual Memorial Vigil, and annual candlelit name-reading ceremony paying tribute to those who lived on the streets of the Denver metropolitan area and passed away during the previous year. By adding the blanket display to this year's event, those attending to honor departed unhoused neighbors will have the opportunity to share in the expression of creativity and love that #MemorialBlanket promises for those still without adequate housing.

A further call to action for our readers and supporters: Do you, your church, or your business have an RV or a van we could borrow to get our blankets from the East Coast to Denver this year? If so, please contact us as epicjourney10@gmail.com.

Blanket-in-a-Day Days

#MemorialBlanket had such success with our blanket-in-a-day event at the Carlisle Summerfair that we've decided to give you crafty friends additional opportunities to add to our blanket pile for Denver. In fact, how about making a blanket-in-a-day TWO WEEKS IN A ROW?

We have two blanket-in-a-day events planned at Molly Pitcher Brewing Company in August and, unlike our earlier event at Carlisle Summerfair, they have wall plugs, so, quilters, feel free to bring your fabric squares and sewing machines.

You can join us upstairs for the first event on Sunday, August 24th from noon to 4 pm. Want to help us celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day? Bring your yellow and blue yarn or fabric that day to craft your own tribute piece! Remember, quilt makers, there are plenty of outlets for your sewing machines.

Exactly one week later, August 31st, also from noon to 4 pm, you can take the stairs once again with needles, hooks, or sewing machines and start the fun all over.

Of course, the best things about joining us at Molly Pitcher Brewing Company are the food, drink, and fellowship you'll be able to enjoy, so bring your supplies and your appetite. For an extra special treat, be sure to get a helping of their homemade tater tots that are, in WAM! the Spaceman's opinion, out of this world!

#MemorialBlanket is incredibly fortunate to have the graphic design skills of Charles Bruce Foundation's own Chad Bruce.

If you go back to the top of this newsletter, you will notice that we changed our headlining graphic to the new Denver 2025 logo. Have you ever wondered where Chad gets the inspiration for his graphic art designs? Here is one great example!

By incorporating elements from a city of Denver logo, a Colorado Coalition for the Homeless design, and the now famous WAM! the Spaceman posing with a pile of blankets, Chad achieved the perfect graphic for the next #MemorialBlanket event this December 21st.

Facebook Features

Social media sharing has been an indispensable way to grow the outreach of Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project. To make it easier for you to contribute important news to the feeds, you can use the old standby #memorialblanket to get your post directly to our social media sites. Better yet, we have the additional hashtags related specifically to unhoused children, #youthhomelessness, #babiesneedus and #babiesinhomelessness. Keep those posts coming!
