The Brooklyn Democratic Party is deeply saddened by the passing of Howard Golden on January 24, 2024, and our hearts go out to his family, loved ones, and everyone in the community he touched and uplifted.
Howard Golden served as the Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair from 1984-1990, and was a highly-respected Party leader who devoted his life towards championing and helping Brooklynites.
Golden promoted inclusivity and unity in the Brooklyn Democratic Party while advancing Democratic leaders who had Brooklynites' best interests at heart.
Golden concurrently served as Brooklyn Borough President, a role that he held for a quarter century while leading our borough forward.
The lifelong public servant's astute leadership transformed Brooklyn into the borough we know today by promoting its economic revival and significant revitalization.
A Flatbush native, Golden served our country during World War II in the U.S. Navy before he started his prolific political career as a City Council Member.
Golden's impact extended beyond our city through his service as a member of the New York State Democratic Committee and the Democratic National Committee.
We all will remember Golden as the champion of the people of Brooklyn while his legacy is felt for generations to come.
