Move-In Volunteers with hand-outs

Before Move-In Weekend...

There is lots to do and remember before you arrive on campus! Here are some highlights:

See the bottom of this email for your full Pre-Arrival Checklist.

Your move-in time slot

Most students will move in on Saturday, September 5, with 2-hour time slots beginning at 8 am. A limited number of spots are available to move in on Friday, September 4, for a pro-rated fee.

Still need to select your time slot? Here’s what you need to do:

  • Upload your student ID photo (it may take 24–48 hours to process!) – see the email from the Registrar's Office.
  • Sign the Residence Contract during the time slot selection process – review the Residence Contract here.
  • Choose a move-in time slot, depending on availability.

Fees, guests, and time-sensitive mail

Your Residence fees

Your Residence fees were posted to SOLUS on August 14. For more information on how to pay your fees, please visit the Office of the University Registrar's website.

No overnight guests at the start of term

Guests are not permitted between 12 am midnight and 8 am on a daily basis between September 4–14, 2026.

The guest policy can be found in section 3.10 of the Residence Contract.

Mail Depot and time-sensitive items

A reminder that deliveries will not be accepted at the Residence Mail Depot before August 31, 2026. Please do not arrange for packages to arrive before this date. Any items delivered prior to August 31, 2026, may be returned to the sender.

The Residence Mail Depot will begin distributing student parcels on September 6, 2026.

We receive a high volume of parcels in the first month of the academic year, and our team works hard to process all parcels within 48 hours. For time-sensitive items like medications, urgent course materials, or items you need immediately upon arrival, we encourage you to place orders to your permanent address, bring essentials with you, or purchase them locally.

Before you bring it: this week's sustainable move-in tip!

We know that you may use some packaging for your items. The box for your favourite mug? Of course. The wrap around the framed picture of your pet? A must!

If your disposable packaging does make it to campus, consider bringing it back home for future use or proper recycling. Reusable packaging can be used after Move-In Day, and a little extra thought helps to keep your Residence clean and sustainable.

Order your bed and bath linens

If you want to make your move-in a breeze, check out Campus Linens. They've got everything you need for a comfy stay, from bed linens to bath packages, and they'll deliver straight to your residence!

Save the hassle with a rental fridge!

Rent your residence room fridge from Coldex! Coldex delivers and picks up your rental fridge, saving you time at move-in and move-out. Order by August 21 and your Coldex fridge will be in your room before you move in – it's that easy!

Remember to check your building details to ensure you order the right fit for your room. Note that Smith House, Brant House, and Endaayaan-Tkanónsote have in-room mini-fridges as a default amenity.

Important reminder about microwaves

Microwaves are prohibited from use anywhere in Residence, as are other small appliances (including but not limited to kettles, rice cookers, space heaters, etc.). Despite this prohibition on microwaves, you are permitted to possess a microwave rented from Coldex, a university-approved supplier, as part of an approved mini-fridge/microwave package. See your Residence Contract (section 4.10.12.f) for more information.

Mobile Order with your Meal Plan

Yes, you can order ahead with your Meal Plan! Simply download the app, connect your student account, and start ordering meals, snacks, and beverages from many food locations on campus. Ordering ahead makes it easy and convenient for you to grab food between classes.

Do you have a food allergy or other dietary needs?

  • Ensure you have completed the Food Allergy and Dietary Needs Form before arriving to campus.
  • Celiac/gluten intolerant students must sign and return the Gluten Free Friendly Pantry waiver (sent by email) to dietitian@queensu.ca no later than August 27, 4 pm ET for access to the Leonard and Jean Royce Gluten Free Friendly Pantries.
  • Book an appointment with the Registered Dietitian to discuss making safe and informed dining choices.

You're GOOD TO GO!

You are automatically enrolled into the GOOD TO GO Reusable Container Initiative.

When you move in and pick up your keys, you will receive a green carabiner clip. Bring your carabiner to retail food locations on campus and participate in the sustainable swap of carabiners for your meal in a GOOD TO GO container. You'll also save the $0.75 single-use fee on select take-out containers!
