Building Georgina

Multi-use Recreation Complex (MURC)

Each day, progress continues on Georgina’s new Multi-use Recreation Complex. The structural steel is complete, and the gym, Discovery Library Branch and lobby roofs are near completion. The siding, electrical and mechanical, and pool area work are all progressing well. View the above video to see it all coming together. 


Replacement Civic Centre

Georgina Council has voted to move forward and build a Replacement Civic Centre with an updated total project budget of $50 million. Council approved the 44,600-square-foot building which will provide for the Town’s staffing and public needs today and in the future. It will also be designed with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability.

March Break Activities

Are you looking for fun activities for the family over March Break? Check out the drop-in programs at the Georgina Gym – everything from basketball and yoga to tai chi and pickleball. Or take the kids to make a splash during public swimming at the Leisure Pool. Lace up the skates and join us for indoor or outdoor public skating at the Pefferlaw Ice Pad, the Ice Palace and Sutton Arena.

Georgina Fire and Rescue Services

March break home escape planning drop in

Are you looking for some fire safety fun this March Break? Join Georgina Fire and Rescue Services on March 15 for its Home Escape Plan drop-in session.

Stop by the Keswick Fire station at 165 The Queensway S. anytime between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The fire prevention team will be available to help families with home escape planning and answer any fire safety questions. Families are invited to view the fire trucks and talk to the firefighters if available. Each family will leave with a home escape planning kit to practise at home.

Daylight Saving Time

It’s almost time to spring forward! The clocks go ahead one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12 as we make the change to Daylight Saving Time. As you change your clocks, remember to change the batteries in your smoke and CO alarms.

The Town of Georgina is holding virtual Council meetings. These meetings will be broadcast as usual through the Town’s live streaming tool.

March 28 – 7 p.m. Special Council meeting – Keswick Secondary Plan update 

March 29 – 9 a.m. – Lake Drive Shoreline Action Plan update 

Public participation by phone is available. A pre-registration form is required to be submitted to the Clerks Division by noon the day before the meeting. The form can be found at georgina.ca/CouncilMeetings.

Meet the super chill, Eros. This kitty is an affectionate social butterfly. Stormwater ponds

A reminder that stormwater ponds are not to be used as skating rinks. They are not intended or designed for recreational use as water levels can change rapidly and create unsafe conditions. This is extremely dangerous and poses many safety risks for residents.

Load restrictions on Town roads

Every spring, between March 1 and May 15, there is a load restriction to five tonnes per axle on Town roads. The reason for the load restriction is that with the warmer weather, the roads become soft, and vehicles travelling with loads larger than the limit could potentially cause damage.
