Dear Friends and Partners:
It’s been a busy and wonderful month! Recently we returned from a fantastic trip to Europe, checked off a few bucket list items, and even found time to relax. On top of that, I’m thrilled to welcome new Vet READY clients and continue the mission to create spaces where veterans can genuinely thrive.
But being busy is a double-edged sword—it can be energizing, but it can also be overwhelming. As the year wraps up, I'm trying to find a speed limit that keeps me focused without speeding toward burnout. This time of year is full of joy, family, friends, and good food (pumpkin pie, anyone?). But we can easily overload our plates, literally and figuratively, and miss the chance to enjoy it all.
As leaders, we must know this for ourselves and those we lead. The holidays can be a time to recharge or a source of stress—especially for many who have faced disasters and hardships this year. As we move into this season, we have an opportunity to be true servant leaders, creating environments where people can reflect, rest, and be thankful rather than getting bogged down by the weight of it all.
So, as we cruise toward the end of 2024, let's find the balance—get those leaves picked up, jump in the pile, and take some time for yourself. More importantly, help those around you do the same. After all, how much pumpkin pie is just enough?
Make sure to find your sweet spot and enjoy this season of reflection and gratitude. Onward!

Last month on October 3 marked the anniversary of Operation Gothic Serpent in Mogadishu, Somalia, which took place 31 years ago. Many know the events from Black Hawk Down, but I lived it, arriving in the aftermath as the Independent Duty Medic on the airfield, tasked with mission planning to rescue Mike Durant. Though my personal experience remains private, it’s important we take a moment to honor the Special Forces and Rangers who gave their lives that day, following the orders of civilian leaders. October 3 often goes unmentioned, as the loss and pain are heavy, but we must pause to reflect. Our nation continues to face critical moments like these, and behind every decision in Washington, DC, are real lives—sons, daughters, and futures. Our military leaders on the ground must be fully supported with clear objectives and proper resources. To my Ranger brothers and sisters: RLTW. I saw you, and I was proud to stand beside you. Never forget. | |

We went to Iceland & Sweden
From immersing ourselves in the resilient spirit and unique perspectives of the Icelandic people to exploring Sweden’s rich, old-world heritage that still shapes its modern-day life, the leadership lessons from this journey have been rooted in respect and engagement. Respect means embracing people as they are, from wherever they come. Engagement requires leaning into the initial discomfort of human connection, allowing us to grow as leaders and individuals. It was inspiring to witness communities elevating one another by fostering mutual respect and actively working together—an enduring reminder that communities built on collaboration and understanding truly thrive. This photo is of my wife Pat and I after a hunt in Sweden last month with Scandinavian Pro Hunters. The meat went to the local villages and we are grateful for the opportunity to help support!

Move to the Right or Left
In many countries, including England, Japan, and Sweden, escalators have a standard etiquette: stand to one side to allow for smooth flow. This unwritten rule accommodates both fast and slow riders. In contrast, the US often lacks this norm. As leaders, it's worth pondering: If your workplace were an escalator, would your team naturally "stand to the side" for others? Is there clarity about such expectations? Tune in.

Cracking the Code Podcast
I was honored to be on the Cracking the Code Podcast with host Ryan Skinner. I share reasons why you need to be the CEO of your life. Being the CEO of your own life allows you to evaluate who you surround yourself with and whether or not they’re adding to your life or hindering it. This can be a difficult decision to make, but it is important to look inward and do what is best for you to continue to grow and prosper. Tune in.
