Thinking a lot this week about being present in the many roles in my life and finding that surprising peaceful. I have one of those overactive minds, it likes to create scenarios and dramas, it likes to imagine every possible thing that could go wrong and what I should do to make sure to avoid all future misfortunes. It likes to imagine that I should be proven right in all past and present disagreements. It likes to imagine that those who are less keen on me will wake up to see how good and charming I can be. A mind full of conversations with itself. I should have been this, I should have been that. I failed to be all that I could be. A mind that is often not my best friend. I long for the hours, that I live away from it that I live in my heart-mind.
I am many roles, daughter, wife, friend, and sister. I am hike leader and walker. During the week I am sometimes the client, sometimes the patient, the shopper, or the writer. I am dog mother, cook, wall finisher and painter. This week was a week in finding peace by relaxing into the role of the moment. I am not meant to be in one blissful state or emotion. I may be divine and spirt and one, but I also fully human wiggling me way through the currents of life. My emotions, the full palette of humanity, to be understood, to be blended and integrated. When I am living in my mind, emotions can be discordant and sometimes toxic. I am disconnected from those around me. But when I shift into the heart-mind, I come into the moment, into the role of moment and find connection and peace. There is a sense of wholeness, of richness here. I wriggle in my roles, casting off dogma and shoulds that do not serve me or those around me. Even the most routine moments can bring a sense of playfulness and adventure when I yield to something more spontaneous.
Kim - Have a good week.

Book and Movie Salon/Club -
2024 Schedule 2nd Mondays 5:30 pm
"It's not like I'm hiding that I'm gay from this friend, it's not that I don't want to tell her. It's just that the more I've grown into my queerness, the less I want to come out to straight people.
"What do I talk to these people about? How do I share feelings and intimacies without revealing this huge part of myself? Who am I without this queerness that now pervades my life, my politics, my everything?”
BAM Salon will discuss the book, Hijab Butch Blues by Lamya H., 2023. Sept 9th
This searingly intimate memoir, spans Lamya's childhood to her arrival in the United States for college through early-adult life in New York City. This story of courage, trust, and love, celebrating what it means to be a seeker and an architect of one's own life. Lamya H is fourteen years old when she realizes she has a crush on her female teacher. After years feeling out of place, one day in Quran class, she connects with a passage about a woman named Maryam. She goes on to make sense of her struggles and triumphs by comparing her experiences with famous stories in the Quran. An intimate self-reflection of becoming who you are.
Plan to join us on Monday, the 9th of September, 5:30p PST/8:30p EST for this telling read of self-reflection and embracing who you are meant to be.
