Movin' On Up... to the Fourth Floor
If you hear the sound of hammers and saws, that's just us. We're renovating the fourth floor of our building at 211 S. Wheaton Avenue to accommodate the growth of our firm.

'We are excited about expanding our space to serve both our employees and our clients," said Mike Moyski, CPA. "As we continue to grow we wanted to create a space for our staff to connect with our clients as well as with each other. This new open space allows for that growth."

Anticipated move-in is by the first of the year and our address will change to "Suite 400."

When the Market Changes

If you are investing in the stock market, it may feel like a roller coaster. If you invest in mutual funds, the changes in these funds may have an impact on your taxes.

Knowing the timing of your mutual fund dividend dates is critical to planning your year-end tax strategy, according to Ron Austin, CPA. "In addition to dividends, your mutual funds may also distribute capital gains and you may owe capital gains tax," he said, adding that capital losses can be offset by gains, something known as "tax loss harvesting."

Many mutual fund companies post capital gain distribution estimates beginning in October. These estimates can help investors plan ahead for taxes. If you are a mutual fund investor and you would like help anticipating the impact of the market on your tax picture for 2018, please give us a call. We are here to help you keep your equilibrium during the ups--and the downs--of the market.
Congratulations to Michael Lyons, CPA

As a learning organization that values professional development, we celebrate and acknowledge our team members as they continue to develop in their careers. Today we offer our congratulations to Michael Lyons, someone on our team who is a "newly minted" CPA. Michael recently received the news that he is now a licensed certified public accountant after passing the rigorous four-part CPA exam.

Michael came to MMA & Co. in January 2017. He has degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received both a bachelor's degree in accountancy and a master of accounting services degree with a concentration in business and public policy. He's a member of the Illinois CPA Society and is a self-professed fan of running, rowing, boating and gaming. He is also capably handling the company's Fantasy Football leagues.

We're proud Michael is part of our team.
Our People Make a Difference

We recently reached out to students at another college career fair--this one held in the Krasa Student Center at Benedictine University in Lisle. Matt Lupo, CPA, and Dan Bauers, who is also an alumnus of Benedictine, were there to talk with students and to learn more about their interests in public accounting,

That was the third of three career fairs we have attended this autumn--the others were at Loyola's Quinlan School of Business and Northern Illinois University (NIU). These fairs, hosted by the universities to give students access to companies seeking interns, have introduced us to a fine crop of talent in the field of public accounting. We're looking forward to continuing our tradition of hiring interns who contribute to our productivity while getting real-life work experience.

In addition to spotting new college talent, we are actively seeking new team members with experience in public accounting. If you know of an accountant seeking a change, and looking for just the right fit, please make an introduction on our behalf. We are, truly, "movin' on up!"
The elegant Ron and Kim Austin attended CASA of DuPage County's 25th anniversary gala held Oct. 20th at the Drake Hotel in Oakbrook. Ron and Kim enjoyed the evening along with Brian and Holli Hagene, Mike and Tori Moyski and John and Lora Vires.

The event, which included both silent and live auctions, raised money for CASA of DuPage County. CASA stands for "Court Appointed Special Advocates," a program that supports children who are affected by the judicial system. Volunteers are specially trained to assist children whose lives are affected by legal issues that compromise their health, safety or quality of life.

Ron joined the board of directors of CASA DuPage in November 2011. He has served as treasurer, then as president for two terms, and he is currently serving a second term as treasurer. His commitment to this important not-for-profit is just one example of MMA & Co.'s on-going support of the community.

The Autumn Leaves Begin to Fall
You may not know it but accountants live by deadlines all throughout the year, not just on April 15. We just finished completing work to meet an Oct. 15 deadline and we're still catching our breath between "busy seasons." As the leaves turn color and fall around us, we're reminded that winter (and that other "busy season") are right around the corner. We are never too busy for you, though. Please let us know how we can be of service.
