A Word From the Chamber President
Moving Forward in the New Normal

By Jon Blankenship
President/CEO
Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce

Enid citizens should be proud of the way our city has responded to the COVID-19 crisis. City leadership has taken timely, thoughtful actions to ensure Enid adheres to the Governor’s emergency declarations and state guidelines throughout this terrible pandemic. Our hospitals have been at the forefront, planning and implementing major steps to be prepared for a spike in the number of COVID-19 patients.

As devastating as this situation has been for many employers and employees, Enid businesses have looked for ways to be innovative - enhancing their online, drive-through, curbside and delivery capabilities. Many companies responded to the requests and donated PPE to the hospitals. Our community banks have done a remarkable job responding to the heavy demand from businesses applying for SBA economic disaster loans and the Payroll Protection Program. Enid and Garfield County residents have been committed to helping as well - donating PPE, donating to charitable organizations that provide services and supporting local businesses as much as possible.

There is good news. The goal of slowing down the spread of COVID-19 over a longer time period has been achieved. The data shows that Oklahoma has indeed flattened the curve. The original concern was that the health care system would be overwhelmed, thus causing a higher death rate. Our state health care system is prepared.

As we phase in the re-opening of our regional economy for business, we cannot let our guard down. The “new normal” could include future COVID-19 surges and spikes. We must continue to practice social distancing and minimize large gatherings for now. Relying on information from our health care health professionals is essential.

Your continued support for our local businesses is vital. Shopping local is more important now than ever before. Enid has exciting projects on the horizon that will enhance our city’s position as the retail and entertainment hub of Northwest Oklahoma. Together we will overcome these challenges and continue to build a bright future for Enid.

Thank you for your tremendous community support.
Thank you Enid business owners and employees for your innovation, drive
and perseverance. Thank you Enid and Northwest Oklahoma residents for supporting Enid businesses. We’re all in this together.
