Saturday, October 29, Chair Wheeler attended the Boys and Girls Club of Great Washington (BGCGW) Woodbridge Hylton Club's celebration of the completion of its Great Big Kid (GBK) program. Potomac Magisterial District Supervisor Andrea Bailey (left top photo) also attended. | |
GBK is a BGCGW mentoring program where adult mentors (Big Kids) are paired with mentees (youth Club members) to support them academically, socially and personally. The mentoring period is 6 weeks with a minimum of 1 interaction per week. | | | |

Thursday, November 3, Chair Wheeler's Office attended a promotion ceremony for the 29 PWC Police Department sworn members and professional staff who were promoted to various ranks and positions since the last ceremony earlier this year. You can read about the promotions here. | |

How to Find Your Polling Location
To In the Virginia Department of Elections' Citizen Portal, submit your name, date of birth, last 4 of your SSN, and select Prince William County from the drop down menu and click on submit. Then scroll down your Voter Information results webpage to the Polling Place section.

What to Bring
Virginia law requires all voters to provide an acceptable form of identification at the polls. The ID no longer must have a photograph. A list of acceptable IDs can be found here. If you get to your polling place without acceptable ID, you can sign an ID statement affirming your identity, you will be able to vote a regular ballot.

In the November 8 General election PWC residents are voting for their U.S. House Representative. Residents of Dumfries, Haymarket, Occoquan, and Quantico will also be voting for their Mayor and City Council Members. Thursday, November 10, 9:30 am to 10:30 pm, PWC is hosting a Veterans Ceremony. The event is open to the public and will take place at the Freedom Park War Memorial, next to the Liberty Memorial and across from the Sean Connaughton Plaza, located at 5 County Complex Court in Woodbridge. Chair Wheeler, Neasbco Magisterial District Supervisor and veteran Victor Angry, and PWC Veterans Commission Chair Tom Gordy will provide remarks during the ceremony. This is the County's second annual Veterans Ceremony (issue 91). | |

The Prince William Chamber of Commerce has selected Robert (Bob) Sweeney as the new President and CEO. Mr. Sweeney is a successful businessman, entrepreneur, educational leader, and seasoned non-profit executive. He currently serves as Director of Corporate Partnerships with the Kogod School of Business at American University and previously as an Executive in Residence and Strategic Advisor to the Dean at the School of Business. Mr. Sweeney starts on November 10. You can learn more about him here. | |

The CAC's mission is to:
- Promote public involvement in transportation planning for the region.
- Advance equitable representation in regional transportation planning.
- Provide independent region-oriented community advice to the TPB on transportation plans and issues.
The CAC meets once a month on Thursdays, six days prior to the monthly TPB meeting. Typically held at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, in the 2023-2024 two-year term, they may occasionally be held at lunchtime. Meetings will be either completely virtual or a hybrid combination of in-person and online. In-person meetings are typically held at the MWCOG offices located at 777 North Capitol Street NE in Washington, DC.

PWC residents may apply for a Solid Waste Disposal Decal for their vehicle, which provides quicker entry into the County Landfill, Balls Ford Road Compost Facility, and the Saturday collection sites at Nokesville School and Evergreen Fire Station. Residents can provide their driver’s license to gain entry and use these services, the decal makes the check in process faster and more convenient. Learn more about applying for a decal here. | |

Wednesday, November 16, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is hosting Virginia Snake Identification. The free online class will focus on how to accurately identify local snake species, including a deep dive into the Eastern Copperhead, Northern Cottonmouth, and Timber Rattler. It will also review some best practices on how you can limit snakes from coming onto your property and/or into your house. Register here. | |

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 6, at 2:00 am when clocks are turned back one hour to 1:00 am. This annual Fall event is also a good time to think about the items below. | |
- Change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Check your vehicle's tire pressure and wiper blades.
- Put a winter emergency kit in your vehicle.
- Check to see that you have reflective clothing, decals, or lights if you plan on walking or biking to use after dark.
- Check your home emergency kit.
- Have your fireplace inspected and chimney/flue cleaned if needed.

Saturday, November 5, at 11:00 am, the annual Northern Virginia Veterans Parade will be held in Old Town Manassas. The 2022 Grand Marshals are PWC residents retired Army Col. Ulysses Xerxes “Xerk” White and retired World War II nurse Elizabeth Lewis. The parade is dedicated to all service members past, present and future. Once again, the parade is sponsored by non-profit VetPar Inc. | |

Saturday, November 5, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Manassas Church of the Brethren is hosting an Art Show & Craft Festival to support Mental Wellness at its Manassas 10047 Nokesville Road location. Arts and crafts will be on display and available to purchase. A special art installation from the Church's Death Row Support Project, will feature original art from artists on death row. Silent Auction and Bake Sale proceeds will benefit the ART Factory’s 2023 Artful Wellness workshops by creating a scholarship. There will also be a table to create your own art. All are welcome to this free event. | |
Death Row Support Project
A person confined to death row often spends up to 23 hours each day alone in a small cell, for years and sometimes decades. Letters can bring a ray of hope to the darkness of death row. For those on the outside, learning to know just one prisoner can dispel some of the misconceptions and fears about prisons and the people locked away inside of them. Congratulations to Prince William Public Libraries on its Gold MarCom Award for its “Visit Prince William Public LiBEARies” video promoting the libraries' resources with creative wordplay and cute characters. Prince William County is located 25 miles south of Washington, D.C., and is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s second-most populous county with approximately 482,000 residents.
