The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber has brought South Sound leaders to the Steel City this week for its inaugural inter-city conference, Aspire. The mission is to reinvigorate the South Sound's commitment to dig deeper, compare and contrast, remove barriers, and find collaborative/inclusive solutions to move our region forward!



ART WITH AN IMPACT
The City of Tacoma is currently accepting applications from organizations for funding to produce publicly accessible art projects within Tacoma city limits in 2020.

Through Nov. 4th, applicants can apply for a flat amount of either $3,000 or $6,000 for their project.

SOUTH TACOMA RIDING ON THE REGION'S AEROSPACE INDUSTRY JET STREAM
When  Tool Gauge  CEO Debbie Lee boards an airplane, she notices things other passengers probably overlook or take for granted.

Today, the company, which is one of only a handful of Boeing-certified Class I and Class II plastic shops in the world capable of machining full five-axis parts, has two divisions — one for plastic injection molding, and another for machining metal.


CONNECTING SOUTH SOUND TO JBLM
At October's Military Affairs Forum, the business community will learn how the recently-awarded Office of Economic Adjustment Grant is helping South Sound Military & Communities Partnership (SSMCP) accomplish some of their important work:

  • Studying localized transportation impacts
  • Seeking ways to provide and coordinate adequate off-installation housing for active duty service members and their dependents
  • Expanding conservation banking and conservation partnering opportunities in Pierce and Thurston counties


AFFORDABLE HOUSING LAGGING - WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE SOUTH SOUND?
While tech startups and businesses are moving to the South Sound, Tacoma's focus is to keep local talent by creating affordable housing options.

Next week it will be one year since Tacoma’s Affordable Housing Action Strategy was published and presented to the City Council. For all its progress, the fact remains: Tacoma’s need for affordable housing is growing each year, and the pace of adding new units is lagging demand.


U.S. CHAMBER SEEKING CHANGE-MAKER
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is seeking for a new Congressional and Public Affairs Manager for the Northwest region, interacting with state/local chambers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska.

If you have any experience in lobbying, working on a campaign, or in a similar environment, we encourage you to become a change-maker at the regional level!

Join WACT for their annual Consular Association Reception (CAR) in honor of the individuals who serve their home country's interests and further global development across Washington.
