November 7, 2025

The tongue may be small, but it has immense power. James challenges us to

recognize that what comes out of our mouths reveals what’s in our hearts. Words can

either bless or curse, heal or wound, build up or tear down. This week we’ll see how a

mature faith surrenders even the tongue to Christ, letting our speech reflect God’s

wisdom, truth and love.

Trevor Miller, Faith Formation Pastor, will be preaching in the Auditorium for the Contemporary Worship services; Jeff Kersey, Pastor Emeritus, will be preaching in the Sanctuary for the Traditional Worship services.

For those worshiping remotely, you're invited to watch our services online, on Facebook and YouTube.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is in full swing. Please bring your filled shoeboxes to the church this Sunday. There is still time to pack a box online by visiting mthorebchurch.org/missions and selecting the Operation Christmas Child link. Millions of children around the world are coming to know Jesus Christ through these simple gifts.

Confirmation Registration

Confirmation is an experience of the Global Methodist Church in which our 8th grade students enter into the process of becoming full members of the church and have the opportunity to make a public affirmation of their faith to the congregation. We will hold a Parent Information Session this Sunday at 12:30 PM in the Student Room.

Register for Confirmation at mthorebchurch.org/confirmation.

Surviving the Holidays

Holidays can be some of the most difficult times after your life has changed. They are typically steeped with tradition when families gather and everyone around you seems to be celebrating. All of this can make holidays especially hard when you are experiencing grief or pain. Mt. Horeb is offering two separate seminars in November to navigate this challenging season.

Join us as Stephen Ministry provides a time of how to deal with grief during the holidays while remembering our loved ones together. Surviving the Holidays sponsored by GriefShare® will be Tuesday, November 11 in the Student Room from 6:30-8:00 PM. To register, contact Dell Simpson at

dell.simpson@mthorebchurch.org.

For those experiencing separation and/or divorce, join us for Surviving the Holidays

sponsored by DivorceCare® on Wednesday, November 19 in the Fellowship Hall from 6:00-8:00 PM. To register, contact Doreen Michaels at gmadory@yahoo.com

Senior Adults Luncheon

Bring a friend and join us for the Mt. Horeb Senior Adults Annual Holiday Luncheon on Wednesday, November 19 at 11:30 AM in the Auditorium in the West Building. Our program will feature "Sisterhood," a women's quartet made up of our very own Traditional Worship Director, Melodie Griffin and her childhood friends. Heather Atkinson, Paige Brockett, Lisa Wall and Melodie all grew up in Hartsville, SC and love singing God's praises. Because they grew up singing together, their tight harmonies and unified hearts deliver a powerful Spirit-filled message every time they sing. You won't want to miss this very inspiring program.

Registration is required by Monday, November 17.

Reserve your spot now.

For more information, please contact Kathy Aldridge, our Senior Adults Ministry Administrator at senioradults@mthorebchurch.org.

Thanksgiving: From Family to Family

Would you like to adopt a local family this Thanksgiving?

Your family can shop for groceries and Thanksgiving Day meal ingredients and deliver them to a local family who could use a blessing on Sunday, November 23.

Bring your shopping list items at 4:00 PM in the Mt. Horeb Auditorium. At that time, you will receive the name and address of a family that has already been contacted and is eager to receive your basket. Most families will be available to receive their basket on Sunday immediately following the packing party. Other families may need for you to call and schedule an alternative delivery time.

You provide the groceries and a laundry basket. A shopping list is provided on the registration page. Mt. Horeb will provide the meat, collard greens and the address of the family that you will deliver to.

*Note we have modified the shopping list to provide a week's worth of food in addition to a Thanksgiving meal because the children are out of school all week and will not receive breakfast or lunch.

For questions or more information, contact Jessica Coates.

"If you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday." Isaiah 58:10
