October 25, 2024

For the second week of our Exiles series, we will look at Daniel while he was in exile, and is called to interpret King Nebuchadnezzar’s troubling dream that none of the king’s wise men could explain. Daniel prays and receives divine wisdom to interpret the dream, which foretells the rise and fall of earthly kingdoms. This story shows how, even in exile, Daniel trusts in God and becomes a vessel for His purposes in a foreign land. We'll discover how Daniel sought God's wisdom when faced with an impossible task and how we can do the same in our own crises as a way of honoring God and pointing others to Him.

Trevor Miller, Family Pastor, will be teaching in the Auditorium for the Contemporary Worship services; Chris Morgan, High School Coordinator, will be preaching in the Sanctuary for the Traditional Worship services.

For those worshiping remotely, you're invited to watch our services online, on Facebook and YouTube.

Operation Christmas Child

The 31st year of Operation Christmas Child begins this Sunday! By simply filling a shoebox with fun and meaningful items, you are creating the opportunity for children around the globe to hear the Good News and the Great Joy of Jesus. You can pick up a box and instructions on Sunday outside of the Auditorium and Sanctuary. You may return your boxes to the church November 3 or 10. You can also easily fill a box online or donate a flat cost. All the information for this year's collection and our very own link for online boxes can be found by visiting mthorebchurch.org/occ.

Disaster Relief

At Mt. Horeb, we seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus when disaster strikes. Many families in Western North Carolina are in need. If you are willing to donate financially or donate supplies needed, please visit mthorebchurch.org/disasterrelief for all details.

We are partnering with the Global Methodist Church and emergency responders to get items to the needy families in the hardest hit areas. Please drop your donations off Monday through Thursday from 11 AM-1 PM and 4-6 PM and on Sunday mornings from 8:45-11:30 AM. We will collect items for the month of October. Look for the Donations Drop-off banner at the white metal garage across the far west end of the parking lot. All items needed can be found here.

Hymn Sing

We are excited to invite you to another Hymn Sing this Sunday night, October 27, in the Sanctuary at 6 PM. For those unfamiliar with a hymn sing, it’s the old-fashioned way with just the use of our hymnals and a piano. We’ll sing any of your favorite hymns you request. It’ll be such a fun night of worship for the whole family, so don’t miss it!

Immersion Baptism

Our next immersion baptism will be November 17 in our Contemporary services. As Global Methodists, we believe that baptism is an outward sign of an inward work that God is doing in our lives and because God’s work is perfect, we believe in only being baptized once. If you are someone who has never been baptized and would be interested in being fully immersed under the water, or if you’d like to learn more about baptism, please plan to attend our upcoming immersion baptism class on either Sunday, October 27 at 12:30 PM or Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 PM. Once you’ve completed the class, we’ll schedule you for baptism on November 17 or a future date. Register at mthorebchurch.org/baptism.

Surviving the Holidays

On Tuesday, November 12, from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, our Stephen Ministry and GriefShare will sponsor a Surviving the Holidays program. This will be a time to help deal with grief during the holidays while remembering our loved ones together. Then, on Wednesday, November 20 from 6-8 PM in the Fellowship Hall, DivorceCare will sponsor a Surviving the Holidays program for those experiencing separation and/or divorce in this season. For more information about any of our congregational care ministries or to register for either of our Surviving the Holidays programs, please visit mthorebchurch.org/care.
