Before we can wrestle with questions about Christianity, we must begin with the most fundamental question of all: Is there really a God? Some believe science has made belief in God unnecessary, while others wonder why God doesn’t make His existence more obvious. Scripture teaches that God has revealed Himself through creation, through human experience and ultimately through Jesus Christ. This week, we will examine the evidence that points beyond ourselves and consider whether belief in God requires a blind leap of faith or is a reasonable response to the world around us.

Grace Marie Shaw, Worship Arts Pastor, will be preaching in the Auditorium for the Contemporary Worship services; Chris Morgan, Pastoral Intern, will be preaching in the Sanctuary for the Traditional Worship services.

Abide: Prayer & Worship Night

Join us tonight for Abide, a night of open prayer and worship in the Kersey Chapel, starting at 6:30 PM. It’s a two-hour block with no set schedule: worship, pray, be prayed for by one of our prayer partners or just sit and abide in God’s presence. Come as you are and stay as long as you need, we’re glad to have you.

GriefShare® is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. Beginning August 18, GriefShare® meets on Tuesdays from 6:30–8:30 PM in the Student Room. For more information, click here.

Whether newly separated or divorced for years, DivorceCare® is a safe place where caring people come alongside you as you find healing from the pain of this difficult life experience. Classic Christmas Choir Kickoff

Get ready to kick off the Christmas season with music, fellowship and festive fun! You're invited to our Classic Christmas Choir Kickoff on Saturday, August 22, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Whether you're a longtime choir member or you've always thought about singing at Christmas, this is your moment to jump in.

No previous choir experience required. Come see what it's like to be part of this special Christmas celebration as we prepare for our Christmas presentation on December 19. Childcare is available by reservation so the whole family can participate.

Acolyte Training

Serving as an Acolyte or Crucifer is a meaningful way for 3rd–8th graders to participate in worship and carry the light of Christ into our services. Rooted in scripture (1 John 1:5), this is a special opportunity for children to serve in our 9:00 and 10:45 AM Traditional worship services.

Training will be held Sunday, August 23, starting with pizza in the Café at 12:30 PM, followed by training in the Sanctuary. One of our pastors will lead the training, teaching the symbolism behind this ministry along with the practical steps for serving.

A parent or guardian must stay for training, since some duties require their assistance. Please click here to RSVP.



Family Festival & Car Show

Join us Friday, August 28, from 5:30–8:30 PM for our second annual Family Festival and Car Show! This free community event has something for everyone: classic and custom cars to check out and vote on, inflatables and a petting zoo for the kids, free Pelican’s Snowballs, a Dunk Tank benefiting our Car Care Ministry, live DJ and food trucks. Membership Class

Whether you’re exploring Mt. Horeb or ready to join, you’re invited to our Membership Class on Sunday, September 13 from 3–5 PM in Room 861. Baptism Class

Our Baptism Class for all ages is happening Sunday, September 13 at 5 PM in Room 861. As Global Methodists, we believe baptism is an outward sign of the inward work God is doing in our lives, and because His work is perfect, we practice one baptism. If you or your child has never been baptized, or if you’d like to learn more, we’d love to have you join us. After attending the class, you can choose from one of our upcoming in-service baptism dates. This class covers both sprinkling and immersion. Fall Men's Event

Men, mark your calendars for our Fall Men’s Event. On Tuesday, September 22 from 6–8 PM, we’re welcoming Inky Johnson, one of the most sought-after speakers in the world. Inky was a top-thirty NFL draft prospect out of Tennessee before a career-ending injury paralyzed his right arm. Since then, he’s dedicated his life to helping others find purpose through adversity. Come hungry, we’re serving up a southern-style feast. Cost is $20, and it’s a night for every guy, whatever stage of faith you’re in. Bring a friend. Register at mthorebchurch.org/adults.

Flu Shots

Come get your flu shots on Wednesday, September 2 from 4–6 PM to protect yourself and your community from the flu! No charge with most insurance plans.
