October 4, 2024
In the final week of our Saved series, we will explore the purpose of salvation. We are saved for something: for God's mission and for good works that glorify Him.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. This Sunday we will unpack the idea that we are saved to serve. God saves us not only for our own benefit but to partner with Him in His work of redemption in the world. Our salvation has a purpose beyond ourselves — it’s about living for God’s glory, making disciples and reflecting His love.
Jeff Kersey, Senior Pastor, will be preaching in the Auditorium for the Contemporary Worship services; Michael Turner, Executive Pastor, will be preaching in the Sanctuary for the Traditional Worship services.
For those worshiping remotely, you're invited to watch our services online, on Facebook and YouTube.

Disaster Relief
At Mt. Horeb, we seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus when disaster strikes. Many families in our South Carolina area and in Western North Carolina are in need. If you are in need of assistance, willing to serve, willing to donate financially or donate supplies needed, please visit our website at mthorebchurch.org/disasterrelief for all details.
We are partnering with the Global Methodist Church and emergency responders to get items to the needy families in the hardest hit areas. Please drop your donations off Monday through Thursday from 9 AM – 12 PM and 4- 7 PM and on Sunday mornings from 8:30-11:30 AM. We will collect items for the whole month of October. Look for Mt. Horeb’s Disaster Response Trailer at the white metal garage across the far west end of the parking lot. All items needed can be found by clicking here.

Wednesday Night Classes
We are excited for you to have a chance to grow and mature this fall through the classes we are offering on Wednesday nights. We kick off our next set of classes next Wednesday, October 9. There will be a Pastor's Study focused on the second half of the book of Hebrews, as well as Marriage and Evangelism classes. Register at mthorebchurch.org/adults.
- Pastors’ Study: 2nd Half of Hebrews in the Sanctuary
- Relational Evangelism: Led by Janis Albergotti and Stephen Fitch in Room 552. This class will equip everyday Christians to share the gospel in today’s skeptical world and help as many people as possible hear the good news about Jesus. Together, we will explore the gospel message and the hope that it offers to the world, learn strategies and practices, including cultural perspectives, for how to share the gospel with others, and discover different methods of approach and presentation to winsomely present a gospel that magnifies the lordship and love of Christ.
- The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy & Kathy Keller: Led by Trevor Miller and Jessica Coates in the Fellowship Hall. Modern culture would have you believe that everyone has a soul mate; that romance is the most important part of a successful marriage; that marriage does not mean 'til death do us part, but merely for as long as my needs are being met; and that when serious differences arise, divorce is the best solution. According to the Bible, all of these modern-day assumptions miss what marriage is all about. In this six-session video-based Bible study (guide sold separately), Timothy Keller, along with Kathy, his wife of forty years, draws a profound portrait of marriage from the pages of Scripture that neither idealizes nor rejects the institution but points us back to the relationship between God and man. The result is a vision for marriage that is refreshingly frank and unsentimental, yet hopeful and beautiful.

Hymn Sing
We are excited to invite you to another Hymn Sing on Sunday night, October 27, in the Sanctuary at 6 PM. For those unfamiliar with a hymn sing, it’s the old-fashioned way with just the use of our hymnals and a piano. We’ll sing any of your favorite hymns you request. It’ll be such a fun night of worship for the whole family, so don’t miss it!

Immersion Baptism
Our next immersion baptism will be November 17 in our Contemporary services. As Global Methodists, we believe that baptism is an outward sign of an inward work that God is doing in our lives and because God’s work is perfect, we believe in only being baptized once. If you are someone who has never been baptized and would be interested in being fully immersed under the water, or if you’d like to learn more about baptism, please plan to attend our upcoming immersion baptism class on either Sunday, October 27 at 12:30 PM or Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 PM. Once you’ve completed the class, we’ll schedule you for baptism on November 17 or a future date. Email baptism@mthorebchurch.org with any questions.

Photos Needed for Celebration
As January approaches, we are planning some exciting things for Pastor Jeff’s retirement party. One of the things we are looking for are pictures from the “Old Days.” Please bring any photos you may have of Pastor Jeff and Lynn that we could use in celebration of the years he has been at Mt. Horeb. If you drop them off in the church office, we will scan them and get them back to you. Thank you in advance. We know many of you have some great pictures!
