This Sunday we begin our new series called Skeptic: Hard Questions. Real Faith. Everyone has questions. Some come from curiosity. Others come from disappointment, doubt, suffering or experiences that have shaken what we thought we believed. Unfortunately, the church has sometimes treated questions as threats to faith rather than opportunities for deeper faith. Let's take an honest look at these questions together, starting with one of the most foundational: the Bible.

The Bible is the foundation of the Christian faith, but how do we know we can trust it? Was it changed over time? Is it filled with contradictions? Can an ancient book really speak with authority today? This week, we will explore how the Bible came together, why Christians believe it is the inspired Word of God and the historical evidence supporting its reliability. Rather than avoiding difficult questions about Scripture, we will discover why generations of believers have built their lives upon its truth.

Trevor Miller, Faith Formation Pastor, will be preaching in the Auditorium for the Contemporary Worship services; Bill Bouknight, Retired GMC Guest Pastor, will be preaching in the Sanctuary for the Traditional Worship services.

Back to School Bash (B2SB)

Middle school students, join us for our Back to School Bash as we celebrate the end of summer and get ready for an awesome new school year. We’ll have inflatables, games, prizes, free Pelicans SnoBalls, food trucks with food available for purchase and plenty of fun. Best of all, no registration is required; just show up and bring a friend! We’ll see you this Sunday, from 4:00–6:00 PM in the front parking lot here at Mt. Horeb. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!



Fall Student Kickoff

All middle and high school students are invited to our Fall Student Kickoff this Sunday, from 6:00–7:30 PM in the Student Room. It will be an exciting night filled with games, worship, biblical teaching and awesome giveaways. Whether you’re returning or checking things out for the first time, this is the perfect opportunity to connect with friends, meet new people and discover what God has in store for this year in Student Ministry. Come ready for a high-energy night, meaningful worship and plenty of fun. Bring a friend and don’t miss the biggest student gathering of the season!



MIDWEEK

As disciples of Jesus, we believe that we are called to live in-step with the Spirit. While attending Sunday Morning worship is a great place to start, living in-step requires us to be walking with Jesus each and every day. Beginning this Wednesday from 6:15–7:30 PM, MIDWEEK is a way for all generations to take their next step in faith. Through kids programming, middle school programming and adult classes and small groups, we are studying Scripture, growing in community and being challenged to become more like Jesus. Childcare will be available through our Kids Programming.



Abide: Prayer & Worship Night

Mark your calendars for Friday, August 14. We’re hosting Abide, a night of open prayer and worship in the Kersey Chapel, starting at 6:30 PM. It’s a two-hour block with no set schedule: worship, pray, be prayed for by one of our prayer partners or just sit and abide in God’s presence. Come as you are and stay as long as you need, we’re glad to have you.



Small Group Launch

We aren't meant to do life alone. Fall Small Group Launch is now open. The launch will take place on August 16 and 23 in the Student Room from 9:00–10:15 AM. The deadline to register is August 10.

Horeb, we believe disciples of Jesus live communally: encouraging one another, studying Scripture together, praying for each other and walking through life side by side. A small group is more than a weekly meeting. It's a place to belong, build meaningful friendships and deepen your relationship with Christ. Whether you're a young adult, a parent, an empty nester, single or simply looking for a place to connect, there's a group where you can grow and thrive.

Congregational Care Groups

GriefShare® is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. You don’t have to go through the grieving process alone. Beginning August 18, GriefShare® meets on Tuesdays from 6:30–8:30 PM in the Student Room. For more information, click here.

Whether newly separated or divorced for years, DivorceCare® is a safe place where caring people come alongside you as you find healing from the pain of this difficult life experience. Beginning August 19, DivorceCare® meets on Wednesdays from 6:00–8:00 PM in Room 547. For more information, click here.



Acolyte Training

Serving as an Acolyte or Crucifer is a meaningful way for 3rd–8th graders to participate in worship and carry the light of Christ into our services. Rooted in scripture (1 John 1:5), this is a special opportunity for children to serve in our 9:00 and 10:45 AM Traditional worship services.

Training will be held Sunday, August 23, starting with pizza in the Café at 12:30 PM, followed by training in the Sanctuary. One of our pastors will lead the training, teaching the symbolism behind this ministry along with the practical steps for serving.

A parent or guardian must stay for training, since some duties require their assistance. Please click here to RSVP.



Family Festival & Car Show

Join us Friday, August 28, from 5:30–8:30 PM for our second annual Family Festival and Car Show! This free community event has something for everyone: classic and custom cars to check out and vote on, inflatables and a petting zoo for the kids, free Pelican’s Snowballs, a Dunk Tank benefiting our Car Care Ministry, live DJ and food trucks.
