If God is loving and powerful, why is there so much pain in the world? For many people, suffering is not simply an intellectual question—it is deeply personal. Disease, tragedy, injustice, disappointment, and death can cause us to question everything we believe about God. Scripture does not give us easy explanations for every painful experience, but it does reveal a God who enters into our suffering and promises that pain will not have the final word. This week, we will wrestle with one of faith’s hardest questions and discover where God is when life hurts.

Michael Turner, Senior Pastor, will be preaching in the Auditorium for the Contemporary Worship services; Dell Simpson, Congregational Care Pastor, will be preaching in the Sanctuary for the Traditional Worship services.

Upward Sports

At Mt. Horeb, sports are about more than the game. Through Upward Sports, kids learn the fundamentals of basketball and cheerleading while discovering what it means to be part of God's plan for their life. It's coaching, community and character, all in one season.



This season, basketball is open to boys and girls in grades K5 through 6th, and cheerleading is open to girls in grades K5 through 3rd. Registration opens September 1, so mark your calendar and register online when the time comes.

Widows Brunch

Join us for a special women’s Widows Brunch on September 12 at 10 AM as we come together to encourage the widows of Mt. Horeb Church. Enjoy good food, warm fellowship and an uplifting message from guest speaker Cherie Nettles, a nationally loved Christian speaker and humorist known for heartfelt stories and contagious joy.

Membership Class

Whether you are seeking information about the church or are ready to join, you are invited to attend our Membership Class on Sunday, September 13 from 3–5 PM in Room 861. Those who wish to join the church will have that opportunity at the end of the class, and those who are not ready yet can return to a future class for additional information and/or to join. You can register at mthorebchurch.org/membership or through our Mt. Horeb app. 

Baptism Class

Our Baptism Class for all ages is happening Sunday, September 13 at 5 PM in Room 861. As Global Methodists, we believe baptism is an outward sign of the inward work God is doing in our lives, and because His work is perfect, we practice one baptism. If you or your child has never been baptized, or if you’d like to learn more, we’d love to have you join us. After attending the class, you can choose from one of our upcoming in-service baptism dates. This class covers both sprinkling and immersion. Register now at mthorebchurch.org/baptism or through the Mt. Horeb app. 

Our next in-service immersion baptism will be September 13 (the same day as the class) in our Contemporary services. So, if you are someone who has never been baptized and would be interested in being fully immersed under the water, and haven’t take the Baptism Class yet, please email baptism@mthorebchurch.org, so we can set up a meeting with a pastor.

West Campus Interest Meeting

Mt. Horeb is preparing to take an exciting next step as we look toward launching our West Campus, expanding our mission of making, maturing and mobilizing disciples that magnify Jesus in the Gilbert and Batesburg-Leesville communities. If you’re excited or curious about what God is doing and want to learn more about the vision for the West Campus, join us for our West Campus Interest Meeting on September 14 from 6:30–7:30 PM in Kersey Chapel. We’ll share about where we’re headed, why we believe God is leading us there and how you can be part of helping launch this new campus. Whether you already know you want to be involved or you’re simply curious about what’s ahead, this meeting is for you. 

Fall Men's Event

Men, mark your calendars for our Fall Men’s Event. On Tuesday, September 22 from 6–8 PM, we’re welcoming Inky Johnson, one of the most sought-after speakers in the world. Inky was a top-thirty NFL draft prospect out of Tennessee before a career-ending injury paralyzed his right arm. Since then, he’s dedicated his life to helping others find purpose through adversity. Come hungry, we’re serving up a southern-style feast. The cost is $20, and it’s a night for every guy, whatever stage of faith you’re in. Bring a friend. Register at mthorebchurch.org/adults.
