Hello from Mother Regan
She's finally here!
Dear Ones,
Sunday night, I finally arrived in Coronado with my youngest daughter Genevieve (who is going by Eve) to the warmest welcome ever! Beautiful gifts of food, wine, flowers, and the Ferguson's cozy casita helped us to decompress from our long drive and to be ready for a day of firsts on Monday. We hit the ground running yesterday, and on the walk home from her first day at Christ Church Day School, Eve gushed “I LOVE school!” All I could do was gush back: “I LOVE church!”

The incredible welcome continued through the day on Monday with a staff meeting that may have made me a little teary (have you ever seen such a crackerjack staff!?), a Service Ministry welcome parade (that definitely made me teary), a tour of the finished rectory by Property Committee chair John Sturges (whose team has really knocked this project out of the park), a CCDS School Board meeting (let me just say that I’d vote Nancy Funk for president any day of the week), and even more food, supplies at the rectory, wine, and love from so many (WOW).  Read more
Advent at Christ Church
Advent Message from Mother Regan
Ponder Christ's arrival in a new way
As we turn to Advent, I invite you to into a season of contemplation and reflection. The Christmas that is coming may be different than any Christmas we have ever celebrated. And while there is grief over some missing traditions, there is great joy and opportunity among us. In the end, I believe that the feeling of Christmas, despite all the differences will be exactly what we know. The Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ cannot be “ruined” by Covid!

The opportunity we have this Advent is to ponder Christ’s arrival in a new way, from a new reality, with new revelations. From our novel vantage point, we have the opportunity to re-imagine the world into which we would like Baby Jesus to be born; we have the opportunity to draw upon Christ’s eternal presence to work toward re-creating the world into which we would like to come again. This work—this play—comes from deep reflection, contemplation, and even penitence as we discern and turn toward God and God’s will for us and for humankind. God is good all the time, and we must persevere in stepping into the light—we must not be afraid. Read more
2020 Advent Devotional
Do Not Be Afraid
This year we will offer a special Advent devotional for parishioners. Do Not Be Afraid: An Illustrated Devotional includes five weekly devotions for all ages, as well as illustrations that are meant to be colored in and many opportunities to doodle and engage with the content in fun and creative ways.

We invite you to explore what it looks like to hold hope when life feels really uncertain, to bring peace in the face of fear, to practice joy when everything seems burdensome, and to choose love, when sometimes, it’s just really hard.

Copies will be available to those participating in the Advent Wreath Workshop. November 29. If you are not attending contact Charlette Preslar to request a copy.
Advent Wreath Making
Advent 1 - Sunday, November 29
Begin Advent by making an Advent Wreath, Sunday morning November 29. You may choose one of four sessions between 9:00 a.m. and 12 noon.

There will be eight stations, set at safe distances, available each session. Each station will be limited to an individual or members of the same family - sorry no friends or guests.

For a $10 fee your station will include all of the supplies you will need to complete your Advent Wreath - 1 per family. This year there will be lovely reusable forms custom made just for us! When registering just sign up for a time slot - that will ensure a station in your name. There is no need to list family members that will be attending.
La Posada
Advent 3 - Wednesday, December 16
Come join us as we "journey with the Holy Family" in search of shelter. In this time that is set apart, it is even more important that we take time to prepare for Jesus' birth.
This year's posada will provide the opportunity for families to register for a timeslot, travel to the three inns, and engage with the innkeepers. Will you find a safe place to stay? What will it feel like to be turned away?

Come and travel with the Holy Family and ask those questions with your own. Mark your calendar - registration will begin soon.
Advent Angels
Toy drive is underway
Advent is still around the corner BUT our annual Advent Angel toy drive has already begun.

Your donation of a toy (or two or more) will go to a child, 3 to 5 years of age, in the ECS South Bay Head Start program.

This year we ask that you simply purchase an age-appropriate toy and either have it shipped to the church, bring it to an in-person service or contact the parish office to arrange to drop it off during the week. No wrapping necessary!

To make it even easier - we have created an Amazon Wish List with some shopping suggestions. All toys will be shipped to Christie Tugend's house so we can insure safe delivery. If it's easiest for you to donate money - Service Ministry will do the shopping for you! Make sure to indicate "Advent Angels" when you make your donation.

This Week at Christ Church
Faith, Hope, and Love
Annual Stewardship Campaign
This is the last official week of our 2021 Stewardship campaign Faith, Hope and Love. Thank you to everyone who has already submitted an estimate of their giving to Christ Church in the coming year.

There are still a number of parishioners we have not heard from - we'd love to include your pledge in our totals for this Sunday's in-gathering.

As you can see from the accompanying graphs, only 66% of our pledgers from 2020 have replied so far. The good news is that we are nearly 72% to our goal of $550,000 thanks to the many parishioners who will increase their giving in 2021.

The most important aspect of pledging is that people participate. The amount of your pledge is less important than the commitment to support the mission and ministries of the church in the year to come.

Of course, no matter when you are able to submit your pledge, we will be happy to receive it. If you have any questions about pledging or would like to speak to someone about your 2021 pledge - contact Christie Tugend.
Thanksgiving Pie Sale
Only a few pies left!
There are only a few pies left and when they're gone, they're gone! To place a pie order email Sarah as soon as possible. Choose from:

  • Pumpkin
  • Pecan
  • Apple

Remember, your purchase of a pie for $30, to enjoy with your Thanksgiving feast, will help raise funds for Episcopal Community Services.

Pre-ordered pies will be individually boxed for safe handling and available for pick up from the church courtyard on Wednesday, November 25, from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
