Much Needed Medical Equipment to Sri Lanka - Your donations at work


Medical professionals, from both the government and the private sectors, NGO's and the international community have joined together at this critical juncture, on a virtuous but daunting task of confronting the challenges brought onto the Sri Lankan public by this ever eluding and surging COVID pandemic resulting in a great strain to the nation's hospitals dealing with limited specialized equipment for treatment.
 
As such, the International Medical Health Organization (IMHO), a USA based charity, which has been providing support, through various health and welfare projects, to the needy in Sri Lanka, for quite some time, have once again stepped up to the plate, with a generous donation of medical equipment and supplies, worth US $3.1 million (SLK Rs.620 million) in value. The Medical equipment was given by the University of Maryland Medical System.
 
Shipped from the US in 12 large containers, the equipment was finally handed over by the Ministry of Health officials, in a ceremony held at the Health Ministry's distribution department, on Sep. 01, 2021.

Gracing the occasion were, the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Munasinghe, the Director General for Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardene, the Acting Director General of Health Services (Planning), Dr. Sathasivam Sridharan, the Acting Director General of Health Services (Lab Services), Dr. Sudath Dharmaratne, the Acting Director of Health Services (Medical Supplies, Dr. D.R.K. Herath and the Director of Medical Supplies Mr. Kapila Wickramasinghe.

The Health Ministry is to distribute the equipment to selected hospitals, in all 26 districts including the Central , Northern and Eastern Provinces in Sri Lanka.
