It's First Friday!

Gallery 14 Anniversary Reception

Join Gallery 14 artists as they celebrate 17 years, featuring the works of Christopher Sweeney and Maslow, visionary artists who embark on a creative journey off the beaten path.

Meet the Artists

Reception: October 4, 2024

5-8PM

Artist Maslow is nationally recognized through his large scale murals and fine art. Subjects in his work seem to explode with movement and commotion while still maintaining a stillness and realistic quality. A blend of realism and abstraction in a way that invites a surrealist perspective which showcases the unique paintings that defy the boundaries of 2 dimensional art and invite a sense of unexpected emotion.

Christopher Sweeney is known for his iconic contemporary pop art. The mixed media artist often incorporates themes of popular street culture in his work exploring subjects such as sneakers and cartoons in his paintings. The underlying message always returns to a root of love and gratitude expressed in the XO ( kisses and hugs) insignia present in nearly all of his work.

Python Hunters –

Preserving Paradise One Snake at a Time

Museum of the Everglades

September 17, 2024 – January 11, 2025

As South Florida’s invasive Burmese python problem slithers toward its third decade as a recognized environmental catastrophe, Museum of the Everglades will present an exhibit exploring the actions being taken to remove and/or neutralize this reptilian threat.

Titled simply Python Hunters, the exhibit will share information and stories from people on the frontlines of this battle to save the Everglades ecosystem. Scientists, celebrities, hunters, hobbyists, and everyday citizens who have joined in the fight will all be featured.

Striking images of the hunters and their prey will share space with the facts and statistics surrounding this continuing crisis and the work being done to preserve paradise . . . one snake at a time.

Part of the charm of downtown Fort Pierce is that the connection to its past is visible today. The oldest surviving structure is the P.P. Cobb building which dates back to the 1880s when the area was identified by the remains of a 2nd Seminole War U.S. military fort. The railroad tracks that run parallel and intersect the main roads of downtown reached Fort Pierce in 1894 and with them came more people causing the population in the region to expand. A majority of the historic buildings in downtown Fort Pierce date back to the 1920s, the decade that encompassed the rise and fall of the Florida land boom era. Fort Pierce’s participation in training Navy Frogmen during WWII ushered in a new era of population growth once the war ended which led to the beginning of the development in Port St. Lucie. All of these events in history have left their mark on this community. Main Street Fort Pierce works to capture the stories and significance of notable individuals and structures each year during the annual Ghosts of Fort Pierce Past Walking Tours.

Every year some of the routes and “ghosts” are rotated to offer new stories for those that have participated in the past. There are five separate tour routes with stops that feature a significant person/structure in and around Fort Pierce. Each tour takes approximately one hour.

Stories in Stone By ZOTO Debuts October 1

Bok Tower Gardens and master stone balancer Adam Conard, also known as the artist ZOTO, will present the first full campus exhibition of stone balances October 1 through November 30, 2024.

Stories in Stone features 25 mind-bending stone balances housed in beautiful areas of the gardens.

A Rich History of Stone as an Art Form

This show connects the rich heritage of Lee Lawrie's stone sculptures to the bold artistic expression of modern stone balances. Through this collaboration, the exhibit encourages visitors to discover the importance of finding balance in life and prioritizing physical and mental health.

Stories in Stone will be displayed throughout the Olmsted Gardens and around The Singing Tower, juxtaposing Lawrie's traditional stone carvings and sculptures with ZOTO's balances.

he Past Comes Alive in Stone

Stories in Stone will captivate the young and young-at-heart using natural stones and historic marble leftover from The Singing Tower's construction nearly 100 years ago.

"It's quite possible a random stone you see has been around for many millennia, withstood unfathomable environmental changes, used to build magnificent towers and monuments, or used in countless other ways to enhance our lives," said ZOTO when asked about the show's materials.

ZOTO most recently produced an exhibit at McKee Gardens in Vero Beach captivating South Florida with his unique art form. The show at Bok Tower Gardens will be ZOTO's third garden exhibit in Florida.

"My art walks the razor's edge between what is possible and what is not; the closer I get to the impossible, the closer I get to my goal of being in lockstep with the Earth. As a viewer, you are invited to become more open to possibilities within yourself and ponder how, together, you can become more connected to our shared home, Earth," said ZOTO when asked about his distictive art form.
