Mug Club Caregivers
News and updates for your caregiving journey

January 1 - January 31, 2025

Welcome to 2025!

In preparation for this newsletter, I came across this blog, Why You Should Set Caregiver Goals (and 10 Goals Worth Making) and I wanted to share it with you.

Someone once asked me, “How do you hit the bullseye, if you don’t know where the target is? I firmly believe in setting goals, not just at the beginning of the year but throughout the year as well. I don’t always complete every goal I set, but it’s good to have direction

According to this blog, goals help with several things; your motivation, they increase your chances of being effective as a caregiver and can even be a stress reliever, to name a few.

Take a few minutes, read through the blog and the suggested goals for caregivers and let me know what you think.

The Return of Trualta!

Great News for 2025, for those of you who remember Trualta – is COMING BACK!!! I don’t have a definite date yet but if you’ve used it before and would like to reconnect when it’s available, let me know and I’ll get you signed up as soon as it’s available.

For those of you who don’t know, Trualta is an online portal for caregivers to access information to hone your skills, learn new skills, arm yourself with knowledge related to your loved one’s condition and care. There are videos, articles, groups, and so much more. Topics galore! You choose when you log on, what topics to explore and how long you stay. If you like to test your knowledge, there are even quizzes for you to take. More to come as I get more information on when it will be available to us again.

A Day in the Life of a Caregiver - Someone recently introduced me to this 2-minute video, from AARP. I’d love to hear what you think and BONUS POINT to anyone who catches something special in or around the 15 second mark 😊

Quarterly Falls Prevention Education Series - On average, 33 falls a day are reported by Brown County ERs, hospitals, and local EMS (excluding Urgent Care & Clinic settings).  Prevent yourself from being one of these statistics! Join us starting January 6th, for a variety of programs that will help improve your balance and possibly help make sure you aren’t one of the 33.

Coping with Grief - Grief comes in all shapes and sizes.  For a lot of us, grief hits long before our loved one passes and while we are actively caring for them.

If you or someone you know is in the grieving process, it may help to know what to expect when experiencing strong emotional pain and sadness.

Connections for Mental Wellness will host a virtual session focused on coping with grief from 12:00-1:30 pm on Tuesday, January 21st. More information and registration.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers 2025

Have you ever said to yourself, “I wish I could have, would have, should have...” Powerful Tools for Caregivers Class is one of my biggest “Wish I could have, should have” moments.

Here is the schedule for 2025. We have a Saturday In-person class, a midday in-person class and an evening virtual class. Find the class that works with your schedule and join us! You won’t be sorry. If you wonder if it’s worth it, make sure to read the testimonies from caregivers who have completed the series.

The SMP Scoop: Protect Detect Winter 2024 Report- The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Scoop is prepared by the GWAAR SMP Team to help Medicare beneficiaries and their advocates prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, abuse, and errors.

Project Lifesaver - We aren’t talking the candy here, Project Lifesaver is a rescue program for Brown Counties most vulnerable individuals that are living with cognitive impairment or medical conditions that put them “at risk” to wander away and become lost.
