From Elisa Reece, Director of Family Ministries:
“Wow! What a wonderful spiritual journey @ Duke Divinity School with Nita Smith. Participating in the initiative “Let the Children Come” through The Lilly Foundation. Children growing in faith through congregational worship, where children shift from being passive observers to active participants, learning through the senses and truly feeling a connection and belonging to God’s family. Nita and I connected with other ministry leaders and pastors from across the country while engaging in the rhythms of worship through the lenses of children. Showing how their spiritual journey can transition into ministry by them rather than just to them. This engagement by children enhances their curiosity, questions, and stories that allow them to deeply connect with God through their worship experience.”

A Bicentennial Moment
In conjunction with Mulberry’s Bicentennial Celebration, The Leonard Hill Cochran Historical Room presents a moment from Mulberry’s history.
Carolyn Kennedy Dominy, Church Historian
The following is a history of the Edith Coleman Class, one of Mulberry’s several ladies Sunday School Classes.
“In the 1920s, a group of about 12 teenagers and pre-teens met at Mulberry Methodist Church for study and worship. Mrs. Edith Stetson Coleman was their teacher. They loved Mrs. Coleman so much that they often went to her home to continue their studies and to enjoy refreshments. They called themselves “Do Unto Others” class. Upon Mrs. Coleman’s death in June 1946 the class was renamed the Edith Stetson Coleman Class in her honor. The stained-glass window in the sanctuary, ‘The Home in Bethany’ was given as a memorial in memory of Mrs. Colmen and installed in 1947.
Mrs. Ion E. Dwyer, a dedicated Christian, soon came to Macon and was a beloved teacher of the Class and later its “Mother” until her death. Mrs. Dwyer was determined to keep the bookshelves in the children’s ward of the hospital filled with books of a ‘happy type.’
The Coleman Class has been blessed with a long line of dedicated Christian teachers and members. Some of the teachers were wives of the ministers or associate ministers. Among them were Mrs. Georgia Cochran, Mrs. A. W. Ray and Mrs. W. H. Bracken who is presently our ‘Class Mother.’ Lessons are basically lecture type with use of materials provided in ’Adults Bible Studies.’ Over the years, the class has grown spiritually, materially, and physically to occupy the beautiful classroom it has today. Bakes sales provided funds for the refinishing of the floors and two window air conditioners. The class continues to contribute generously to projects of the church – Vacation Bible School, Children and Youth ministries, The Methodist Home, Magnolia Manor, the Morgan Johnsons (missionaries), Macon Rescue Mission, Mulberry’s Outreach, the Crisis Closet and to help alleviate world hunger. In lieu of flowers, memorial or honorary gifts ae sent to areas of work with Heart Fund, Cancer Fund, Lung Association, Mulberry’s Bible Fund and the mission activities of the church. Meals are prepared for and served to bereaved families of the class.
The class devotes many hours in visitation to home members of the class and church. Fun, fellowship and Christian love are shared often by this group of ladies whose age varies, but whose spirit remains young.”

Morning Prayer of Petition
God of all good gifts, you surround me with blessings that I can't count or repay. May your outpouring of blessing on me inspire me to be a blessing in the lives of others. May you turn my heart toward your needs in the world that I may:
- use my gifts and capabilities to impact other people,
- grow in financial generosity towards your church and other worthy missions,
- share my struggles and failures in a way that might help others,
- be present with others and offer my time where it can make a difference.
Help my life to be a mirror of your generosity towards me. Amen.

Evening Prayer of Gratitude
Good and gracious God, you have been generous to me and provided for me in ways that I did not deserve or expect. Today may I call to mind the ways you have blessed me:
- through people who nurtured and supported me when I needed it,
- with mentors and others who have invested in my growth,
- through surprising opportunities or resources that I didn't expect,
- by guiding me through challenging times with resilience and perseverance.
Thank you, God, for generously providing for me. Thank you for the ways you have gone before me, for your presence today, and for your promises in the future. Amen.
