A Bicentennial Moment
In anticipation of Mulberry’s upcoming Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, the Leonard Hill Cochran Historical Room presents a moment of Mulberry history.
Excerpts from the Minutes of Official Board Meeting, April 28, 1969:
“The Official Board met in the Fellowship Hall for a supper meeting with Chairman, Cubbedge Snow, Jr. officiating. The Treasurer’s report was given as were reports of all the Committees and Commissions. Dr. Ridley White was thanked for his excellent work on the grounds of the Church.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Fund Drive for the next fiscal year. Mr. Snow gave a report and complete discussion of their problems to date. The discussion concerned the need for raising the budget this year from $144,000 to $160,000 for the coming year. An explanation was given for the increase in Pastor’s salary of $1,000., the purchase of a bus $5,000 and the need to relieve the note at the bank of $18,000 by $10,000 during the next fiscal year. The 25% increase in pledges was explained, increasing the pledges $32,000.
Mr. Bill Fickling, Jr., Chairman of the Apportionment Committee, gave a review of the plans and needs fpr the drive which gets underway tonight. There will be two pledge dinners in mid May with follow up to the members who cannot attend of the dinners.
The problems concerning the raising of the budget were discussed by Crockett Odom, Buncie Skinner, Robert Doyle, Ed Sell and Miss Ann Henry. Dr. Robertson made some timely remarks about the church bus.
Pledge cards were given out to all members present to be signed. They were evaluated at the end of the meeting and it was noted that the stewards have been very generous and increased their pledges in the amount asked. This increase amounted to some $7,000.
The meeting was adjourned with prayer by Rev. A. W. Ray.”

Morning Prayer of Petition
Great and awesome God, in your wisdom you created the earth and by your power you sustain it. I am learning to trust you and to rely on your power at work:
- those who are suffering from illness,
- those struggling with stress and anxiety,
- people who are wrestling with addiction,
- those without access to affordable housing or healthcare,
- systems of inequality in my community and in our world.
Just as you created all that is, God, may your Spirit come and redeem all things. Amen.

Evening Prayer of Gratitude
Mighty God, as I remember the way that you have guided me in the past, I find power to live in the present. Thank you for the ways that your power was made known to me today:
- for moments that brought me life,
- for people who support me,
- for those who challenge my way of thinking,
- for moments of resilience and strength.
Thank you for blessing me with the power of your Holy Spirit. May I continue to live out of that power and not merely my own. Amen.
