Weekly Worship & Prayer during Lent

Join us as we continue our monthly Worship and Prayer service with a special weekly Lenten series. Lent is a season for reflection and spiritual growth as we prepare for the joy of Easter, and this five-week journey will provide an opportunity to deepen our faith through prayer, contemplative practices, and worship. Our evenings will be centered around the theme of gardening; like seeds planted in rich soil, nourished by prayer, scripture, and the light of Christ, we are called to cultivate a deeper, more fruitful faith.

Each Wednesday evening, we will gather for a fellowship dinner at 5:30 PM, followed by a time of scripture, song, and guided prayer at 6:15 PM. Whether you are seeking a new Lenten discipline or simply longing for a space to draw closer to God, we invite you to make the most of this season with us. All are welcome! Nursery is provided.

We have a beautiful Easter Sunday tradition of church members bringing flowers from home to decorate the cross outside the sanctuary. The flowering cross not only serves as a beautiful decoration for Easter, but also symbolizes the new life that comes from Christ’s death and resurrection. We are seeking someone to continue this meaningful tradition by serving as the coordinator for the flowering cross. This would include preparing the cross for flowers before Easter, receiving flowers on Easter Sunday morning and adding them to the cross, and working with our flower and worship guild. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Beth Smith at 478-719-9041.

A Bicentennial Moment

In anticipation of Mulberry’s upcoming Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, the Leonard Hill Cochran Historical Room presents a moment of Mulberry history.

The following are minutes from the Board of Stewards monthly meeting in the Church Annex, Tuesday, June 6, 1905, with Bro. J. H. L. Gerdine as chair. 15 members were present.

The Treasurer’s report was read and confirmed showing:

       Receipts since May 1st     $ 932.14

       Disbursements                    498.01

       Balance on hand              $ 445.13

The stewards brought in $17.60 in assessments.

The Finance Committee reiterated their request at the last meeting to the effect that the brethren try to keep up with their collecting. On the motion of Bro. J. W. Cannon, the Chairman was authorized to borrow enough money to pay off the current indebtedness and also amount due on the improvements.  This money is was not to be borrowed until June 20th, unless it was necessary to pay the Contractor doing the improvement work.

The Church Property Committee reported that repairs to the extent of $25 or $30 were needed on the fence. A motion was made that this committee was authorized to tear down the board fence on First St. side and replace it with a picket fence, the old material thus obtained to be used to repairing fences in the rear.  Also to paint the chimneys on the parsonage.

The pastor stated that, during the heated season, he would like to hold night services on the lawn, provided the Board would authorize to have electric lights installed for this purpose.  On the motion of a member, this authority was granted.

Last Bro. Cannon gave the board some facts and figures to building the balconies in the Church but no action was taken in the matter.

There being no further business matters before the Board, the meeting was adjourned with a benediction by the Pastor.

Morning Prayer of Petition

Holy One, in Christ you gave up everything to enter into solidarity with your people. Today, may I resist the temptation to constantly consume all that is around me. Help me resist:

  • the tendency to get lost in social media,
  • the hyper focus on the way I look or appear to others,
  • the temptation to compare myself to those around me,
  • the urge to lash out or speak harshly to those around me.

As I actively abstain from what is easy in our world, may my focus be on following Jesus more fully. Amen.

Evening Prayer of Gratitude

God of mountains and valleys, deserts and dry places, I am grateful for the ways I have seen you today:

  • for the people who remind me of your goodness,
  • for the simple beauty of nature that reminds me of your presence,
  • for the life-giving moments in my day when I felt close to you,
  • for ways life is opening up and developing for me.

As I resist the urge to busy my heart and mind constantly with all that is around me, may my attention be more fixed on thew ays you work in my life. Amen.
