Message from the Wesley of Macon

I would like to thank Rev. Payton Stone, the Young Adults of Mulberry (YAMs), the Lamback group, and all who contributed financially to the Tuesday night worship and meal at Wesley of Macon this week. The support of Mulberry Street UMC for this ministry is deeply appreciated, especially during the absence of our current Director.

A Bicentennial Moment

In anticipation of Mulberry’s upcoming Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, the Leonard Hill Cochran Historical Room presents a moment of Mulberry history.

The following are excerpts from Commission on Christian Social Concerns, November 24, 1967:

“The past two months have been very busy ones for this commission.  On Sunday evening, September 17th, the entire church night service was turned over to the commission and a program was presented giving the functions and activities of the commission in order o acquaint the congregation with the aims of this group.

On October 1st a programs was presented to the junior high students of our MYF on the dangers of smoking. This program was accepted very well by the young people and many questions asked. Again on October 22nd a program was given by a group of business and professional men in an effort to acquaint the young people with some of the requirements in the way of education for the various types of business and professional work. In November a commission meeting was held and many new programs were discussed and some of them initiated for the months immediately ahead.  This commission has been very active and solicits your thoughts and suggestions.”

Day 3. Proverbs 14:29 (Morning); Nahum 1:3 (Evening)

Morning Prayer of Petition

Forgiving God, you are evermore patient with me when I frustrate, neglect, or disobey you. Foster in me that same patience in my life towards:

  • my family, children, and those close to me,
  • co-workers or classmates with whom I am angry or disappointed,
  • those with whom I disagree and who seem to work against the very things I value,
  • myself, when I fail to do what I want or intend to do.

Help me to be as patient with others in my life as you are with me. Amen.

Evening Prayer of Gratitude

God of the still small voice, my life is so filled with activity that sometimes it is hard to see you at work. Quiet my heart, and give me an ability to see:

  • the ways that you are guiding and caring for me,
  • the progress being made in my life and relationships,
  • the promising changes that are happening in my family, community, and world,
  • the small ways you bring joy into my life.

Strengthen in me the ability to stop and notice the ways that my life is growing and developing despite my frequent inability to see it. Amen.
