Mulberry Supper Club
Mulberry's Supper Club is a fun way to build community and form spiritual friendships in the comfort of home. Just as Jesus shared many meals with friends and strangers alike, this is a great chance to try something new, enjoy a delicious meal, and get to know others from Mulberry! This fellowship opportunity is open to all adults, and hosting is not required to be part of Supper Club. Those who sign up will be assigned to a small group that will meet once per month for 4 months to share a meal together in homes of people in our church community. To ensure a cozy gathering, each group will have no more than 8-10 adults.

It's not too late to join with the Faith & Film Sunday School class that Payton is leading! This will be our fourth meeting, and we will be discussing Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life, based on the true story of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian farmer who conscientiously objected to fighting for the Nazi regime during World War II. You can preview our discussion by checking out the discussion guide, linked below! (Note: the guide contains spoilers for the film!)
| | This past Sunday, August 2, Mrs. Catherine Daughtery and her family came to visit with us! The Daughtery Sunday School class is named in honor of Mrs. Catherine, whose late husband Rev. V. L. Daughtery served as pastor of Mulberry from 1983-87. Pictured above is Mrs. Catherine with current members of the Daughtery class. | | |

A Bicentennial Moment
In conjunction with Mulberry’s upcoming Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, the Leonard Hill Cochran Historical Room presents a moment of Mulberry history.
Carolyn Kennedy Dominy, Church Historian
During the years of 2009 to 2016, a group of Mulberry members began publishing a news magazine titled “Mulberry Quarterly”. The name was something of misnomer in that it was only published three times a year, not four. It was financed by donations from members and others; no church budget money was used. Articles from various Mulberry members were featured from recipes to personal recollections, informative events, etc.
Below is an article written by Gary Dunn titled “Saturday Mornings in the Sixties.”
“It was early on a Saturday morning back in the ‘60s, and my mother was calling downstairs to my brother and me as she did every day. “Chip and Gary…..time to get up.” This was the standard wakeup call but today was Saturday! No school. No homework. No chores, at least for a little while. It was Saturday and Saturday meant my brother and I would be going to the Youth Center at Mulberry. It didn’t take long to feel wide awake and begin to feel the excitement of going to one of the most popular places in town on a Saturday morning. You didn’t have to be a member of the church to know about the Youth Center so kids from all over would be there. My mother handed us our brown paper lunch bags. We didn’t know what she had made for us, but we knew it would be especially good when lunchtime rolled around. The reason it would taste better on Saturday at the Youth Center was because there was a Coke machine at the center. It was no ordinary machine. It not only had Coke (in the small bottles and we all knew those taste the best), but it had Nehi Orange. Not just any Nehi Orange. It was the coldest Nehi Orange that you ever had. And when I would place my dime (yes, dime) in the machine and pull down on the handle, out would drop the sweet, orange, ice cold treat that made any sandwich taste better, even egg salad.
But I am getting ahead of myself. My brother and I would arrive at the church and find that the kids were already beginning to separate into their respective groups. Some of the older teens were in the back playing pool and you could hear the laughter and competitive barbs being thrown around. It was kind of unwritten that the pool table was the exclusive territory of the older guys. I am not sure what the girls were doing; when you think about it, what 10 or 12 year old boy is paying attention to them anyway?”

Morning Prayer of Petition
Steadfast God, may your Spirit so fill me that every day I learn to trust you more. Call to mind today the assurance that you are worthy of my trust when:
- I am scared or nervous about what the future holds
- I am overwhelmed and uncertain about a way forward,
- I am bored and life feels rote
- my relationships feel strained or stuck,
- I doubt your presence in my life or in the world.
Strengthen within me a reliance on your and a strong belief that you are active and at work in me. Amen.

Evening Prayer of Gratitude
Almighty God, you are once far above all creation and intimately close and present in my life. While I often neglect to pay attention to your work in my life, I know you are here. Let gratitude well up in me today as I name:
- the moments that were life-giving today,
- the interactions with others that reminded me I am not alone,
- progress I made in the challenges I am facing,
- signs of light and hope in my community, country, or world.
Thank you, God, for being ever present to me in Jesus and through the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
