Multi-Modal Transportation Board (MMTB) Meeting Summary
On April 9, 2015, the Multi Modal Transportation Board ("MMTB") continued discussion on the upcoming capital improvement project to resurface W. Maple Road between Southfield and Cranbrook. A memo was included in the MMTB agenda packet to update the MMTB on the Steering Committee's last meeting held on March 19, 2015, and to provide the MMTB with copies of all of the data reviewed by the Steering Committee. The MMTB requested that Mr. Labadie, Transportation Engineer, demonstrate the SYNCHRO model showing how traffic would flow if a three-lane configuration was recommended for W. Maple. Mr. Labadie discussed the safety benefits to be gained from a three-lane configuration, including lower average speeds, lower speed differentials, reduction of accident rates and accident severity, reduced traffic conflict points, improved pedestrian crossings, and improved gaps in traffic for ease of turning onto W. Maple from the surrounding neighborhoods. The MMTB also discussed options for accommodating bicyclists on the W. Maple corridor.
The next steering committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 6 p.m. The steering committee will continue to meet once per month, in between each regularly scheduled MMTB meeting, with the expectation that its job will be completed in April or May. The Multi-Modal Transportation Board meets the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Building. For additional information on the Multi-Modal Board's meetings visit www.bhamgov.org.
