Technology has enabled the vending and refreshment services industry to provide a higher level of customer service in the last decade, ensuring a variety of food and refreshments to consumers where they work. In particular, wireless telemetry, which supports cashless transactions and remote machine monitoring, has given vending and refreshment services a new level of professionalism.

In recent years, the rapid consumer adoption of mobile payments has allowed vending and refreshment service operators to make customer transactions easier than ever. In addition to providing an improved customer convenience, operators have found mobile and cashless payments more efficient to manage. These benefits have caused a number of operators to prioritize the elimination of cash, since it is prone to theft (both internal and external) and incurs additional layers of accountability and handling.

What operators need to keep in mind, however, is that cash is not dead. Cash acceptance has remained a feature of vending service, and while many operators work to convert more customers to cashless, cash is actually taking on new importance in the court of public opinion. It is a development vending and refreshment service operators need to pay attention to.

Parlevel Systems has released its next generation of cashless readers called Parlevel Pay Plus. The new readers complement Parlevel's all-in-one solution allowing operators to maximize machine sales while providing a better service to their customers.

Machines equipped with Parlevel Pay Plus can accept credit, debit, campus cards, loyalty cards, NFC payments and mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay. Parlevel Pay Plus also lets operators accept
EMV dip payments – a global standard for accepting cashless purchases. With EMV
capability, operators can utilize the latest standard in credit card security, which keeps customers' payment information encrypted and secure.

Parlevel Pay Plus devices are powered by a 4G cellular connection. 4G offers a fast, dependable connection for cashless transmissions. Parlevel Pay Plus also accesses the most important mobile networks, which allows operators to choose the best provider in their area. Vending machines equipped with Parlevel Pay Plus won’t be affected by the upcoming 2G and 3G shutdown, and can reliably accept cashless payments for years to come.

The Jura X8 prepares a full range of 21 specialties, including cappuccino, flat white, caffè latte, latte macchiato, espresso, coffee and hot water for tea – all at the touch of a button. It can also prepare two milk specialties at once. For added convenience, the X8 offers a one-button process to brew up to five individual coffees at once, or up to a 40-ounce jug of coffee.

An intuitive TFT color display makes it easy to program up to 12 beverages with custom coffee strengths and volumes. The machine grinds, tamps, brews and self-cleans, for coffee that is freshly ground, not capsuled. JURA's exclusive pulse extraction process optimizes extraction for the most flavorful espresso and ristretto. The handy cup positioning aid, large preparation buttons and height-adjustable dual spout add convenience for self-service and everyday use.

Laird Superfood , maker of assorted superfood products, has partnered with Bunn-O-Matic Corp. to release a specialized machine for both its coffees and noncaffeinated beverages. The machine, labeled the Laird Superfood Crescendo Machine, is the first vegan, gluten-free and non-GMO automated hot beverage machine in the marketplace and will be available for purchase or lease in the spring.

This new venture provides Laird Superfood the opportunity to disrupt the traditional coffee machine category with an all-natural offering that will appeal to health-minded audiences.

With the press of a button, the Laird Superfood Crescendo will combine hot water or brewed coffee with Laird Superfood creamers to produce a delicious superfood latte, superfood hot cacao or superfood golden milk with turmeric.
